Recently, Da Nang police have captured a group of 4 people who impersonated criminal police, created a script and acted exactly like in a movie to arrest a technology car driver and then rob him.
On December 9, the Criminal Police Department, Da Nang City Police, said that they had coordinated with Cam Le District Police to investigate and arrest 4 subjects impersonating police officers to illegally detain people and then rob property.
The arrested subjects include: Le Kim Khanh (born in 1984, residing in Duy Son commune, Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province), Nguyen Thi Thanh Toan (born in 1975, residing in Thuan An city, Binh Duong province), Nguyen Ba Tuan (born in 1968, residing in Hoai Duc district, Long An province) and Hoang Phong Phu (born in 1995, residing in District 9, Ho Chi Minh City).
Through initial investigation, it was determined that due to debt, Le Kim Khanh and Nguyen Thanh Toan discussed impersonating police officers, finding people to arrest and threaten in order to appropriate property. After that, Toan invited Tuan and Phu to join the operation.
Khanh went online to order 3 fake police identification cards (using real photos of the subjects and fake names); 2 handcuffs and handcuff keys. He and his accomplices rented a house on Ly Nhan Tong Street (Khue Trung Ward, Cam Le District, Da Nang City) to use as a place to detain people.
It is worth mentioning that this group was so sophisticated that they bought tables and chairs to set up like a police office and rented a car to commit the crime. After preparing the conditions, Khanh called Toan, Tuan, and Phu to Da Nang to rent a hotel on Nguyen Huu Tho Street and assigned specific tasks to each person. Khanh gave handcuffs and fake police ID cards to his accomplices...
Knowing that Nguyen Minh T. (born in 1997, residing in Quang Nam province) was a Grab driver, Khanh gave Toan's phone number to pretend to be a passenger and call a car from Da Nang to Duy Xuyen district (Quang Nam). At around 3:00 p.m. on December 6, when T. drove to the meeting point on 29/3 Street, the subjects waiting there opened the car door, restrained and handcuffed the victim.
The group showed fake documents and claimed to be police officers. The group took Mr. T. to a rented car that Khanh was waiting for nearby, covered Mr. T.'s head with a jacket, and took him to a motel on Ly Nhan Tong Street. There, the subjects handcuffed the technology driver to the seat, claimed to be officers from the "Investigation Department" and interrogated him, asking him to declare his criminal history from 2016 to the present; at the same time, they asked him to provide his phone password and bank account password.
Because he was afraid of being beaten, Mr. T. did as requested. After that, the group went to an ATM on Nguyen Huu Tho Street and withdrew 96 million VND from Mr. T.'s account. At around 9:00 p.m. the same day, the group took Mr. T. back to the car park on 29/3 Street and wiped his fingerprints and deleted all the dash cam data of the driver's car.
Suspecting that the above groups were impersonating police officers to swindle money, Mr. T. shouted "robbery" but was threatened by one of the group who pulled out a knife. Fearing for his life, Mr. T. was forced to let the group escape in his car. At around 9:00 a.m. on December 7, the male driver went to Cam Le District Police to report the incident.
Immediately after receiving the report, the leaders of Da Nang Police directed Cam Le District Police to coordinate with the Criminal Police Department and professional units to investigate and pursue. At 2:00 p.m. on December 8, working groups of Da Nang Police arrested all the suspects while they were hiding in Quang Nam, Binh Duong, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and extradited them to Da Nang.
After the incident, many people expressed outrage at the groupâs reckless behavior. They also felt sorry for the male driver because all his savings were taken and spent by them.
