The incident that occurred at the noodle shop at No. 54 Bach Mai (Hanoi) is still attracting the attention of the public. Earlier on the morning of the 1st of Tet, a group of 3 guests came to the restaurant to eat 3 bowls of vermicelli and was informed by the owner that they had sold out 1.2 million VND.
Although very surprised with this amount, the customer still transferred it to the restaurant's account. After that, guests shared their unhappy experiences on social networks, and at the same time gave a warning to the community about the situation of "slashin.g" Tet with the note that it is necessary to ask the price before eating and using the service.
According to information from the People's Committee of Bach Khoa ward, this business establishment is currently suspended from operation.
In the face of mixed opinions related to the case, on January 2 (i.e. the 4th day of Tet), talking to reporter Dan Tri, Ms. Vu Thi Hoai, the owner of the business establishment, admitted that "this is a big lesson during more than 30 years of the family's business".
The owner said that he had read many people's comments and knew that it was wrong but could not be cleared. The owner of the facility hopes that public opinion will have a fair and multi-dimensional view.
"Our mood is very sad and we don't want to do anything yet. My husband and I only know how to tell each other that we need to learn from deep experience because now if we say anything, it can be misunderstood as justifying the wrong," Ms. Hoai said.
It is known that the shop has a small area and only 3 people do it. In which, Ms. Hoai directly cooks food for customers. Her husband makes iced tea, takes care of cleaning and a helper washes dishes and chopsticks.
Although the incident occurred at more than 1 am on January 29, the couple did not know about it until noon on January 30. The two checked their phone accounts and found that there was an amount of 1.2 million VND sent by the customer.
"At this time, we knew that we were wrong, so we hurriedly found all ways to contact the customer to pay the customer. I asked the bank for support, but due to the Tet holiday, I still don't have a number.
After that, the guest posted information saying that he did not want to receive the excess mone.y back, only wanted to warn the community. This is a very unfortunate risk because those who have been regular customers of the restaurant know that my husband often jokes. For example, a bowl of vermicelli costs 30,000 VND, which is said to be 300,000 VND. But anyway, this is a big mistake for us to see and change ourselves," the owner said.
It is known that this is a noodle shop opened by Ms. Hoai's mother-in-law in 1993. At first, the shop sold duck noodles. About a year later, the shop switched to selling vermicelli. In 2016, she handed over the entire facility for Ms. Hoai and her husband to take over. Before the scanda.l occurred, the restaurant had not experienced a similar situation.
"Currently, we are still complying with the decision from the authorities. No one wants to trample on the rice bowl that they have built for decades. If I am still trusted and loved by diners, I hope to sell again," the owner shared.
According to research, this is one of the most famous addresses selling vermicelli in Hanoi. On weekdays, the shop sells about 60kg of vermicelli and on Tet holidays, it can be up to 80-90kg of vermicelli per day.
Following the case, lawyer Quach Thanh Luc (Hanoi Bar Association) said that in order to have a basis for handling, the authorities will verify and clarify whether the owner of the restaurant has an act of "slashin.g" or not, or it is just confusion and misunderstanding between the owner and customers.
According to the lawyer, in case there are sufficient grounds to verify that there is an act of "slashin.g" from the owner of the restaurant, the authorities will issue a decision to sanction administrative violations with the act of selling higher than the listed price of goods and services.
The fine for this act is from 5-10 million VND, according to Clause 2, Article 13, Decree 87 of the Government.
In addition, the store owner is force.d to return to customers the collected amount higher than the listed price. In case the customer refuses to receive it, the entire difference due to the sale is higher than the posted price into the state budget.
According to lawyer Quach Thanh Luc, over the past time, there have been consecutive stories of customers accusing food service businesses of "slashin.g", causing public anger.
To avoid falling into a similar situation, lawyer Luc recommends that people before using catering services should clearly discuss with the owner of the establishment about the price. If it is suitable, customers can use it, otherwise they can refuse and look for other catering businesses.
