Regarding the case, the representative of the Vietnam Bar Federation said that the unit received an urgent request for help from lawyer Dao Kim Lan dated February 28.

Previously, Mr. Le Tung Van was sentenced to 5 years in prison by the first instance level of the People's Court of Duc Hoa district and the appellate level of the People's Court of Long An province for "abusing the rights of people's liberties and owners to infringe upon the interests of the State, the legitimate interests of organizations and individuals". In the same case, 5 other people of "Peng Lai Tinh Gia" were also sentenced to 3-4 years in prison for the same crime.

After the appellate court pronounced the sentence and the 5 people in temporary detention expired the prescribed appeal time, the criminal judgment enforcement agency sent these 5 people to execute the judgment. Particularly, Mr. Le Tung Van, during the investigation, prosecution and trial, was released on bail by the prosecution agency because of his old age, weakness, and many diseases.

It is known that, after the judgment took effect, on December 7, 2022, the Chief Justice of the People's Court of Duc Hoa district issued a decision to execute the prison sentence for the defendant Le Tung Van. However, there was still no move to show that Mr. Van was going to execute the sentence.

On December 19, Mr. Le Tung Van submitted an application to postpone serving the prison sentence to the People's Court of Duc Hoa district. The reason given is that he is old, weak, has many chronic diseases such as: hypertension, type 2 diabetes, chronic anemia, coronary stenosis, stomach ulcer syndrome, duodenal disease, kidney disease stage 3...

On December 22, 2022, the People's Court of Duc Hoa district issued a decision to solicit an assessment, requesting the Medical Assessment Center of Long An province to conduct an assessment of the disease status with Mr. Van to have a basis for settlement. However, after that, Mr. Le Tung Van did not go to the Medical Assessment Center of Long An province for assessment.
