Underground accident in Quang Ninh: Pregnant wife collapsed when she heard the news of her husband's death

Sharing with the delegation of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to visit and condole on the afternoon of July 30, a representative of the family of worker Vu Van Hiep - one of the 5 workers of Hon Gai Coal Company (Quang Ninh) who died - said that the situation of the male worker is very difficult. The house he is living in Ninh Giang district, Hai Duong is also lent by his maternal grandparents.

Mr. Hiep is a 5/5 furnace worker, has more than 20 years of working at Hon Gai Coal Company. His wife, Ms. Ha Thi Thu, used to work as a delivery worker. However, since she was pregnant with her third child, she had to quit her job to ensure her health. Mr. Hiep's birth parents have long since died. Ms. Thu hangs around at home with a lychee garden, fish pond, and freelance work to conveniently take care of her family.

According to information on the Labor and Trade Union e-Magazine, Mr. Hiep's family has a very difficult situation. In a small house lying bare in the middle of a deserted field, Ms. Ha Thi Thu - Mr. Hiep's wife, crying and collapsing next to her husband's coffin. She still can't believe this painful truth, because just last Wednesday, Mr. Hiep still came to visit his wife and children. He discussed with his wife that he would try to work for a few more months and then retire early to take care of his family and help his wife go to work.

"Brother, brother... He said to take advantage of the opportunity to go to work in a few months, then go home with me to pick up the baby who is about to be born... He said he would retire early to take care of his children so that he could work. Why are you in such a hurry to leave me and my children like that...", Ms. Ha Thi Thu's heart-rending cry made the witnesses even more tense.

Sharing more with the above source, Mr. Quach (Deputy Village is also a relative of Mr. H's wife,) said that the situation of Mr. Hiep's family is particularly difficult, the place where his family is living is a house lent by his maternal grandparents. His wife does not have a stable job, recently she had to suspend her shipper job to ensure her health due to pregnancy. "There are several ponds and gardens around the house, "raising dead fish", "planting deep lychee". Hiep's birth parents have long since died. The difficulties in the coming days must only be on the shoulders of his wife and Mr. and Mrs. Chuong, his parents-in-law... It's so tragic," Mr. Quach said.

The delegation of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor led by Mr. Nguyen Van Bac - Head of the Finance Department was promptly present at Mr. Vu Van Hiep's family to visit and condolence.

At the visit, Mr. Bac expressed his deep condolences to Ms. Ha Thi Thu and her family members and hoped that the family would soon overcome this grief.

The delegation also affirmed that it will continue to accompany the family to ensure benefits and support in the process of handling post-mortem issues. On behalf of the delegation, Mr. Bac also handed over the support of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to Mr. Hiep's family.

Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group said that the unit supported 20 million VND/person who died; Vietnam Coal and Mineral Trade Union supports 20 million VND/person who died. Hon Gai Coal Company shall settle the regimes according to the State's regulations; arranging post-mortem expenses for workers; and support working families with an initial level of 100 million VND/family.

Previously, on shift 2 on July 29, 2024, the Deputy Foreman of Workshop No. 5 - Giap Khau assigned the above 5 workers to work at the anti-hydraulic rack furnace in the form of ZH1600/16/24 level - 110 seam 12 of the Suoi Lai mine extension tunnel exploitation project (phase 1).

While the workers were working, suddenly there was an incident that killed 5 people. The time of the incident was at 22:10 on the night of July 29, 2024.
