On the evening of January 2, the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province said that the Ba Vang Pagoda organizing a procession and display for Buddhists to admire the so-called "Buddha hair relics" is an exhibition activity, so it violated Decree 23/2019 on exhibition activities.
According to the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, over the past time, Ba Vang Pagoda has organized a number of activities such as: Petition ceremony, exoneration of bondholders, transfer to the Nanjing sect, disunity statements related to mother worship, procession and display of objects said to be "Buddha's hair relics" from Myanmar...
The activities of the above-mentioned Three Golden Pagoda have complicated public opinion, potentially causing insecurity and order in the area, causing panic in public opinion.
From December 23 to 27, 2023, Ba Vang Pagoda will organize a procession, display and contemplation of "Buddha hair relics" for people to admire and some activities.
Local authorities determined that these activities of Ba Vang Pagoda did not comply with the provisions of the law on subjects as well as the registration time under the Law on Belief and Religion and Decree No. 162 of the Government, detailing a number of articles and measures to implement the Law on Belief, religion.
The People's Committee of Quang Ninh province affirmed that the organization of Ba Vang Pagoda for Buddhists to worship the "Buddha's hair relics" is an exhibition activity. This activity of Ba Vang Pagoda violated the provisions of the Government's Decree No. 23 on exhibition activities.
As soon as the above incident was detected, the local authorities assigned the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs to coordinate with Uong Bi City People's Committee to continue examining, clarifying, consolidating dossiers and reporting to competent agencies to handle relevant subjects for violations.
Quang Ninh province also asked Ba Vang Pagoda not to compile and produce videos, images, documents ... about the "Buddha hair relics", and asked the Three Golden Pagoda to remove all information about the object believed to be the "Buddha hair relics".
In recent days, the information channels of the Three Golden Pagoda have posted information that this temple welcomes and displays "Buddha hair relics" dating back 2,600 years, supposedly brought back from Myanmar.
The abbot of Ba Vang Pagoda introduced this "hair relics" that can move on its own, attracting many people to watch but also causing a lot of debate on social networks.
Immediately after receiving information that Ba Vang Pagoda organized the above activity, the Government Committee for Religious Affairs advised the Ministry of Home Affairs to request in writing the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province to direct local authorities to check and verify the incident.
The Government Committee for Religious Affairs also discussed and sent a document to the Vietnam Buddhist Church requesting to assess the origin of the "Buddha's hair relics".
The Standing Committee of the Governing Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Church requested Venerable Thich Truc Thai Minh, abbot of Ba Vang Pagoda, to urgently submit an explanation report on the origin of the "Buddha's hair relics" and the organization of this event.
At the same time, the Church also requests Ba Vang Pagoda and its abbot to immediately remove all references to the "Buddha's hair relics at Ba Vang Pagoda" on the pagoda's website and that of Venerable Thich Truc Thai Minh, as well as related social media sites.
Ba Vang Pagoda is headed by Venerable Thich Truc Thai Minh. In 2019, the temple organized "occasional death", preaching "vong retribution", worshipping "wrongful bondholders". Later, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Church met and concluded that Venerable Thich Truc Thai Minh and Ba Vang Pagoda violated the Church Charter, "hurting the reputation of the Church and the Sangha".
The Governing Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Church issued a resolution unanimously dismissing all positions of Venerable Thich Truc Thai Minh in the Church. However, Minh has been abbot of the Three Golden Pagoda ever since. He was reinstated as deputy head of the Central Information and Communications Department of the Vietnam Buddhist Church in March, after nearly 4 years of dismissal.
