According to witnesses, the robbery of BIDV bank, Tay Nam Quang Ninh branch (in Yen Thanh ward) happened late this afternoon. After getting the money, the robber took his backpack and ran out of the bank headquarters. The subject got on a motorbike that was left outside and escaped. Faced with the unexpected situation, a male bank employee chased the robber and shouted for people to stop him.
"The suspect's motorbike had started before, the bank staff and some people ran after it but couldn't catch up," a witness recounted the incident.
In the first months of 2025, a bank robbery also occurred in Ho Chi Minh City. Accordingly, defendant Le Ngoc My and his accomplices in the "Association of bankrupt people" planned to rob Sacombank of 3.8 billion VND.
From being strangers, Le Ngoc My (32 years old, from Nghe An) and his like-minded accomplices got to know each other through a group on social media, so they decided to rob each other to have money to spend. According to the case file, My and her accomplices did not know each other before, had no jobs, and were in debt, so they joined the closed group Association of Debtors on Facebook.
My texted Lam Phuc Loi (25 years old, from Vinh Long) and Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen (23 years old, from Ben Tre) to go to a coffee shop to plan to rob a gold shop, a bank... The trio then went online to order two homemade guns and an old motorbike to repaint black to commit the crime. Tuyen would rent a private car, support her accomplices in the process of robbing the bank and escaping.
Having prepared the tools and means, My and his accomplices began to commit the crime. According to the original plan, the group intended to commit the crime at a bank in Binh Duong province. However, after many days of monitoring and studying the terrain, they gave up the idea because the bank was located in a densely populated residential area with many security guards, making it difficult to access. After that, the group turned to Sacombank's Nhi Xuan Transaction Office on Nguyen Van Bua Street, Hoc Mon District, in a deserted area bordering many provinces for easy escape.
For two consecutive days, My and Loi stayed in front of the bank, recording the time of the money delivery vehicle's arrival and departure, the absence of customers... to calculate the time to strike when the transaction office had a lot of money. Tuyen drove the rented car, while My and Loi rode motorbikes to the gathering point near the Sacombank branch to observe.
At around 10am the same day, the transaction office had fewer customers. My and Loi took guns into the yard, controlled the security guard and escorted him inside. The robbers threatened another security guard and forced him to kneel on the floor.
Loi approached the counter, threw the backpack at the bank employees, pointed the gun at the ceiling, and forced them to put all their money inside. After the employees put a total of 3.8 billion VND in the backpack, My and Loi ran out and got on a motorbike to escape. After running about 2km, to a deserted area near Nhi Xuan rehabilitation center, the two robbers poured gasoline and burned clothes, evidence... to destroy evidence and erase traces. Tuyen then drove to pick up the two accomplices and escaped towards District 12.
That same afternoon, the group hired a taxi to go to Vung Tau City to divide the "spoils of war" according to each person's efforts and roles. My was divided 1.5 billion VND; Loi received 1.3 billion; and Tuyen was divided 1 billion VND.
Next, My went to Binh Thanh District (HCMC) and asked an acquaintance to help him exchange 100 million VND into Singapore dollars. The defendant moved to Tan Son Nhat Airport, parked it in the parking lot, and booked a plane ticket to escape to Singapore.
While My was standing in line at the airport, he was arrested by a working group from the Criminal Police Department, Ho Chi Minh City Police, along with 1.3 billion VND and 5,500 Singapore dollars.
