After 162 products were recalled and the Mailisa ecosystem was prosecuted for suspected smuggling and trading in cosmetics of false origin, Mailisa's social media channels stopped updating and many of the system's beauty salons closed.
In late November, showbiz and the beauty business world witnessed a huge shock when the powerful owners of the Mailisa Beauty Salon system â Phan Thi Mai (Director) and Hoang Kim Khanh (General Director of MK Skincare Company) â were officially prosecuted and temporarily detained by the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Department. The incident, which took place on November 21, shocked public opinion, leading to a series of legal "tightening" and closure actions across the entire system.
Legal Shock: 8 People Temporarily Detained for "Smuggling"
On November 21, the Ministry of Public Security announced the decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Ms. Phan Thi Mai and 7 other subjects in the Mailisa ecosystem. These eight individuals are being investigated for the crime of "Smuggling".
According to information from the Ministry of Public Security, the authorities have discovered signs of serious violations in the cosmetics business. The suspicion is that Mailisa imported cheap cosmetics, supposedly from Guangzhou, then labeled them as high-end, falsely declaring their origin and ingredients to sell them on the market at high prices.
Currently, C03 is expanding the investigation to clarify the scale of smuggling, the exact origin of the cosmetic batches, the cash flow surrounding the case, the role of legal entities in the Mailisa ecosystem as well as the responsibilities of related individuals.
"Embargo" Order From Drug Administration
Immediately after the information about the prosecution was announced, the Drug Administration of Vietnam (Ministry of Health) quickly made decisions to take strong action against Mailisa's cosmetics business activities.
Specifically, on November 26, the Drug Administration announced a 6-month suspension of reviewing and receiving cosmetic product declaration dossiers for MK Skincare Company - run by Mr. Hoang Kim Khanh. The reason is that this company does not have a Product Information File (PIF) stored at the company. The lack of PIF violated the regulations of the Ministry of Health, making it impossible for the management agency to assess the safety, effectiveness and quality of the products, posing great risks to consumers.
A day earlier, the Drug Administration also announced the recall of all 80 acceptance numbers and 162 cosmetic products related to the Mailisa brand.
The System "Hibernates" Simultaneously
Since the day the chairman and his wife were arrested, the Mailisa Beauty Salon system has simultaneously "silently closed" on both physical channels and digital platforms.
Facilities: According to records on November 22 at the large branch in Ho Chi Minh City (Huynh Van Banh Street) and the morning of November 26 in Nghe An (132 Nguyen Van Cu), all beauty salons have closed their main doors and temporarily suspended operations. All beauty treatments for customers have also been announced to stop.
Social Networks and Sales: Mailisa's digital platforms also witnessed a sudden "stop of updates": The MAILISA BEAUTY SALON Facebook page with 2.8 million followers stopped posting ads after November 22. Similarly, the MAILISA TMV TikTok channel with more than 3 million followers also stopped updating ads from the same time. Notably, Mailisa's entire TikTok shopping cart was empty, all products were hidden or removed even though the brand had previously achieved huge sales from livestream sessions.
However, there are still "traces" left. Although the official website ([suspicious link has been deleted]) has removed the "goods" section, key products such as the N3 Set (melasma cream, priced at 2.3 million VND) or the Doctor Magic Melasma Combo still show up in Google searches, showing the coverage and "findability" of these products still exist in cyberspace.
The arrest of Mailisa and her husband and the recall of Doctor Magic products have become the focus, not only legal news but also the hottest topic in the beauty and entertainment industry in recent days.
Mailisa left a series of heartfelt letters to her husband and children, making many readers shudder.
