The yellowfin barking fish or yellowfin barking fish is scientifically known as Otolithoides biauritus. The fish has a pointed muzzle, a wide mouth, saffron-yellow scales, the lower jaw of the fish extends all the way to the bottom behind the eye socket, strong teeth, a long dorsal fin. Fish can live in all 3 environments: saltwater, freshwater and brackish water. Depending on the habitat, the head and back of the fish can be gray or blue.

In Vietnam, the golden barking fish is scattered from northern to southern waters. The Red River area in our country used to be the spawning center of this fish with an output of 20-30 tons caught per day. However, with overfishing, this type of fish is no longer abundant, in very few numbers.

It is almost impossible for yellow barking fish to be kept in an artificial environment. Therefore, this scarcity is also a factor that makes this fish more rare and expensive than ever.

Today, traders hunting for golden barking fish can sell for up to billions of VND depending on weight. Previously, in the period of 2017, it was found to buy at a price ranging from 15-30 million VND/kg. Meanwhile, the golden effervescent fish has a very long life expectancy and relatively large size, an adult fish can grow up to 1m long and weigh up to over 100kg.

Moreover, golden barking fish meat is tasty, expensive, but the most valuable is the bubble part. 1kg of yellow barking fish bubbles also costs from 45,000 - 55,000 USD / kg (about 1 billion - 1.2 billion VND) depending on the length of the bubble. If the fish weighs from 40 to 50kg, the fish ball will fall into about 1kg fresh. Therefore, the price of a golden tiger can reach billions of VND is normal.

Besides delicious and rare meat, golden barking fish is "hunted" by people because of the high nutritional value it brings. In medicine, the Chinese use fish to make esoteric medicines. Besides, there is also a notion that eating yellow barking fish can bring a lot of good luck.

According to medicine, yellow barking fish contains a lot of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, B vitamins, selenium, potassium and zinc, which help improve health. This type of fish offers many benefits as follows:

- Enhance resistance: The proteins, B vitamins, selenium in yellow barking fish help increase the body's resistance, strengthen the immune system, help deal with bacteria and viruses entering the human body, fight pathogens.

- Omega 3 in yellow barking fish reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases, lowers blood cholesterol and reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as stroke, myocardial infarction.

Every time fishermen catch golden barking fish, they are immediately priced from tens or hundreds of millions of dong, depending on the weight. Even in 2018, the pair of golden barking fish caught in Khanh Hoa was also bid by traders up to VND 1.5 billion. Many people wonder why golden barking fish is so expensive.

According to experts, in our country, the golden barking fish belongs to one of the rare and endangered aquatic species, which needs to be protected, restored and developed (according to Decision No. 82 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development issued in 2008).

Accordingly, the act of buying and selling yellow barking fish may result in a fine. According to the provisions of Clauses 3, 4, Article 7 of Decree 103/2013, the fine for one of the acts of buying, selling, collecting, raising, storing, preliminarily processing and processing rare and endangered aquatic species will be fined from VND 20-40 million if the weight of aquatic life is less than 10 kg. The fine amount can be up to 80-100 million VND if the water weight is over 30kg.
