Covid-19 vaccine: Vietnam continues to have people with grade 3 anaphylaxis after vaccination

The National Expanded Immunization Program recorded two more severe reactions after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine, in which one person had grade 3 anaphylaxis with signs of fever, chills, convulsions, and numbness in the hands.

This person showed signs of anaphylaxis 8 hours after the injection. This is the first time Vietnam has recorded a case of grade 3 anaphylaxis after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine AstraZeneca. The previous severe cases were at grade 2 anaphylaxis. The other person showed signs of dizziness, restlessness and discomfort within 30 minutes after injection.

Both were detected and treated in time, and their health is stable now. They were among 1,382 people vaccinated on March 14.

Thus, since the beginning of the Covid-19 vaccination campaign on March 8, Vietnam has recorded 12 people with severe reactions after injection, with 2-3 levels of post-injection reactions, common signs are floating urticaria, pruritus, angioedema at the injection site, dyspnea. In some other cases, the reaction was mild and normal.

In which, the injection point at Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases has 6 people with reactions, Hai Phong Center for Disease Control 4 people, Gia Lai Field Hospital 1 person. All cases of these post-injection reactions were treated within one day, with stable health.

The Ministry of Health has requested Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong and Gia Lai to investigate, evaluate and conclude the causes of serious complications after vaccination against Covid-19.

The localities require the vaccinated persons to fully report their health status and vaccination history to health care workers such as underlying diseases, acute diseases and recent drug use, noting the cases of allergy history.

To date, a total of 11,605 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19. They are in 12 provinces and cities, are medical officers and staff who are directly treating Covid-19 patients, medical staff performing tasks such as taking samples, testing, tracing, completing medical examinations.
