A horrific multi-vehicle accident involving two cars and two motorbikes in Lam Dong on the afternoon of February 13th tragically claimed the lives of three people. Footage from the scene, recently revealed, shows haunting moments and the devastating nature of the event, leaving the public in shock.
The scene was horrific, and the number of fatalities at the scene was increasing.
On the morning of February 13th, the Ho Chi Minh Highway (National Highway 14) section passing through Nhan Co commune, Lam Dong province, became chaotic after a chain collision involving four vehicles. Initially, reports indicated one person died at the scene, but by the afternoon of the same day, local authorities confirmed the sad news: two seriously injured victims had succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Thus, the total number of fatalities in this tragic incident has risen to three.
All the deceased victims were the drivers and passengers on two motorcycles traveling in their correct lanes. At the scene, debris from the motorcycles and cars was scattered across the road, leaving long skid marks, and the wailing of the victims' relatives was heartbreaking for anyone who witnessed it. Security camera footage from a nearby house captured the moment the accident occurred, showing the terrifying speed and the force of the impact, so strong that smaller vehicles were crushed in an instant.
A chain reaction of collisions stemming from the devastating impact of the tractor-trailer.
According to initial investigations, the accident occurred at approximately 5:55 AM. At that time, driver Nguyen Quoc Dao (35 years old, residing in Khanh Hoa province) was driving a tractor-trailer with license plate 50E-166xx, traveling towards Ho Chi Minh City. Upon reaching Km1921 680, the tractor-trailer suddenly lost control and crashed head-on into the rear of a car with license plate 47B-258xx traveling in the same direction ahead.
The devastating collision, with its heavy load, turned the car in front into a giant "ball," sending it tumbling into the left lane. In its uncontrolled freefall, the car then crashed into two motorcycles traveling in the opposite direction. One of the motorcycles, driven by Ms. Dinh Thi O. (40 years old, residing in Nhan Co commune), was thrown off, resulting in her immediate death. The other motorcycle rider also sustained critical condition before passing away at the Medical Center.
A warning bell regarding traffic safety on this major thoroughfare.
Immediately after the incident, authorities in Lam Dong province arrived to regulate traffic and examine the scene. The truck driver was taken to the police station for questioning and to be tested for alcohol and stimulants. The exact cause of the truck rear-ending the vehicle in front is still being investigated, but many believe that speed and lack of observation in the early morning light were the primary contributing factors.
This accident once again raises the alarm about the dangers lurking on National Highway 14 – a vital route with a high density of heavy trucks. Just a moment of carelessness from a truck driver can lead to tragedy for many families, causing the deaths of innocent people on their way to earn a living. Authorities advise drivers to exercise extreme caution when traveling through mountain passes and residential areas in Lam Dong, especially during sensitive hours such as early morning or late at night.
