News of Khoa Pug's bankruptcy is attracting significant attention on social media, especially after Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang unexpectedly mentioned the YouTuber by name during a live stream.
Her statement quickly spread, sparking much debate about what had happened between Khoa Pug and a cryptocurrency a few years ago.
During the live broadcast, Ms. Hang stated: "I have warned you about cryptocurrencies before, and I have mentioned Khoa Pug and the person who was selling diamonds with him. I talked about scams, and today you see I was right. We were greedy and got scammed. I didn't say cryptocurrencies were illegal, but they haven't been accepted yet. I'm not surprised that Khoa Pug went bankrupt. I know that way of getting rich."
Previously, she had also declared that the feud between Khoa Pug and his close friend was a staged act, even calling it a "clumsy play."
Khoa Pug's side has not yet issued a new statement regarding Ms. Phuong Hang. However, old developments surrounding the Diamond Boyz Coin (DBZ) have once again been "resurfaced," becoming the focus of discussion.
During his heyday, Khoa Pug was considered one of the most extravagant YouTubers in Vietnam. His travel series in the US attracted a large audience, but garnered attention more for the side issues rather than purely travel content. From his initial exploration videos, Khoa Pug gradually shifted his focus to sharing about personal finance, investments, and especially cryptocurrency.
In mid-2021, as the cryptocurrency wave was at its peak, Khoa Pug's appearance in the US attracted even more attention. He publicly acknowledged owning Bitcoin early on, sparking much speculation about the source of his wealth. Instead of working independently, the YouTuber unexpectedly collaborated with Johnny Dang – dubbed the "king of jewelers" in the American rap scene – and businessman Vuong Pham.
The trio's displays of valuable diamonds, travel by private jet, and lavish parties quickly attracted attention. At the same time, the cryptocurrency was widely promoted. Khoa Pug used his personal YouTube channel as a media platform for the project, making shocking statements such as "if I lose $10 million, I still have 30 billion to start over," aiming to build trust with the community.
Khoa Pug confirmed holding 10 million coins with an initial capital of approximately $100,000, and then continued to deposit more money to buy directly from Johnny Dang. The appeal of the trio caused this cryptocurrency to surge on decentralized exchanges. The coin reached a peak of around $0.15 at the end of September 2021, but plummeted rapidly just a week later. Currently, the cryptocurrency has been delisted, and the project is no longer being developed as initially promised.
When the cryptocurrency plummeted, Johnny Dang stopped mentioning it on his personal platforms. Khoa Pug also quietly deleted many videos related to the project's founder. The climax was a video where Khoa Pug accused a "new acquaintance" of defrauding him of over 30 billion VND – money he said he used to buy back coins to maintain the price for the community. On Facebook, he wrote: "Even when I was 'scammed,' the price was still at $0.07 USD. After everyone else sold, I sold at $0.04 USD."
The male YouTuber shared details such as being threatened and having to flee in the US. Conversely, Johnny Dang posted a video clarifying, claiming that Khoa Pug did not fulfill the agreement between the two parties. This public dispute caused a long-lasting uproar on social media.
YouTuber Dinh Lan sentenced to 1 year and 9 months in prison, Ms. Phuong Hang commented: Stop being so envious.
