On February 9, the Phu Tho Provincial Police said that they were investigating and clarifying a serious traffic accident that occurred on National Highway 6, the section passing through Mai Chau commune, causing two motorcyclists to not survive.
According to initial information, the accident occurred at around 14:52 on February 8, at Km128 370 National Highway 6, in Mai Chau commune. At that time, the car with the control plate 15C-461.38 moved in the direction of Son La - Hanoi. When reaching the curved pass, the car driver overtook the bus in front of him and collided with a motorbike traveling in the opposite direction.
As a result of the accident, one person on the motorcycle died on the spot, the other was seriously injured and did not survive even though he was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. Currently, the identities of the victims are being verified by the authorities and notified to their families.
The initial cause was determined to be that the car driver overtook the car without ensuring safe conditions, the visibility was limited at the curve, leading to a head-on collision. At the time of the accident, it was raining, the road surface was wet and slippery, potentially posing many unsafe risks for vehicles. However, according to the authorities, the system of signs, road markings and equipment to ensure traffic safety in this area are fully arranged and in accordance with regulations.
Notably, the video recording the development of the accident extracted from the dash cam of the car 15C-461.38 has been widely shared on social networks. In the video, the voice of a woman sitting in the car can be clearly heard urging the driver to "overtake" the bus in front, even though this is a pass, many bends and limited visibility.
When the driver tried to overtake the bus, at this time in the opposite direction, two people were traveling on a motorbike. Due to the narrow road, slippery road surface and the situation was too unexpected, the motorcyclist braked suddenly, causing both of them to fall on the road and be run over by a car with license plate number 15C-461.38, leading to particularly serious consequences.
After the collision, in the video, the voice of the woman in the car can be heard panicking and panicking. However, public opinion was even more frustrated when another man in the car let go of the blame for the victim with the sentence: "It's because of people, not me". This statement quickly became the focus of criticism, considered by many to be insensitive, irresponsible and unacceptable in the face of the deaths of the two victims.
In fact, the situation of drivers overtaking on national highways, especially steep passes and sharp turns, is still quite common. Many serious accidents have occurred, causing traumatic consequences, leaving persistent pain for many families.
To ensure safety when traveling on passes, the functional forces recommend that road users need to strictly comply with speed regulations, keep a safe distance between vehicles, absolutely do not overtake vehicles on roads with limited visibility, dangerous curves and steep passes. Vehicle operators need to turn on the appropriate lights when traveling in rain, fog, and slippery roads. In addition, drivers need to pay attention to carefully observe the areas where people live, buy and sell along the roadside; do not stop or park illegally to minimize the risk of collisions.
