The Japanese public and the Vietnamese community here are shocked by a serious case that occurred in Saga Prefecture. The suspect was arrested on charges of robbery and sending a person to the other world.
Shocking case in Imari city
The incident occurred on the afternoon of July 26 in Imari City, Saga Prefecture. The suspect, Dam Duy Khang, 24, a Vietnamese trainee in the food processing industry, lived near the area where the serious crime occurred with a group of other Vietnamese trainees.
According to information from Saga prefectural police, Khang broke into the private home of Ms. Mukumoto Maiko, 40 years old, a Japanese language teacher. Here, Khang used a sharp object to threaten the victim and robbed her of 11,000 yen (equivalent to about 1.9 million VND).
It is worth mentioning that the amount of money was not large, but Khang's actions were extremely brutal. Ms. Mukumoto Maiko was attacked and died on the spot. The victim's mother, an elderly woman in her 70s, was also injured in the neck area and had to be hospitalized.
In her statement to the police, the mother said she did not know the suspect. She recounted the horrifying moment: "When the doorbell rang, I opened it and was immediately asked for money and my wallet and then attacked."
The suspectâs masked face was captured by the houseâs doorbell camera, helping police quickly locate and arrest Dam Duy Khang. Police also seized a 13.5cm-long object from the suspectâs dormitory.
Cold testimony and serious legal consequences
During the interrogation, Dam Duy Khang refused to cooperate with the police, coldly saying: "I don't want to say anything." The suspect's silence made the case even more mysterious and caused public outrage. Currently, the authorities are continuing to investigate to clarify the motive for the crime and related details.
In Japan, the crime of ârobbery to send a person to the other worldâ is regulated in Article 240 of the Criminal Code. This is one of the most serious crimes, and if convicted, the suspect could face the death penalty or life imprisonment, regardless of nationality or residency status. Dam Duy Khangâs case is being seriously considered and could face the highest penalty.

This incident not only caused great shock among the Vietnamese community in Japan but also negatively affected the image of Vietnamese workers abroad. The Vietnamese community is very worried about the long-term effects that the case may bring, from tightening regulations on foreign workers to the discrimination they may face.
According to the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Vietnam currently has the largest number of foreign workers in Japan. Most of them work hard and obey the law. However, unfortunate incidents like this have had a significant impact on the reputation of the community.
The Dam Duy Khang case is a warning to management agencies and labor dispatch companies to improve the quality of selection and ethics education for trainees before they go abroad. At the same time, this is also a valuable lesson for those who intend to violate the law in the land of the rising sun, where the law is always strictly enforced.
The incident also serves as a reminder of the pressures foreign trainees face when they are away from home. Culture shock, financial hardship and loneliness can lead to poor decisions that can have irreversible consequences.
Some sources have suggested that Khang may be suffering from psychological problems or life pressures, but all of this is still speculation. The case continues to attract media and public attention, and the final investigation will determine the fate of this 24-year-old male trainee.
