The Vietnamese online community and public opinion could not help but be choked up and saddened by the news of Nguyen Quoc T.'s passing in Japan. Mr. T. will forever remain in a foreign land after helping his friend.
Heroic act in the middle of the ocean
The heartbreaking incident happened on June 22. Nguyen Quoc T. (born in 2000, from Nghi Phong commune, Nghi Loc district, Nghe An) and his group of friends went swimming in Japan. Amidst the waves, a friend in the group suddenly got into trouble, struggling hopelessly and calling for help. Without hesitation, T. jumped into the sea, regardless of the danger, to rescue his friend. Thanks to his bravery and utmost effort, he successfully brought his friend safely to shore.
However, an ironic fate befell the hero himself. Immediately after saving his friend, Nguyen Quoc T. himself was pulled away by the strong current, drifted out to sea and unfortunately passed away. T.'s passing was not only a shoc.k to his friends and relatives but also caused great sorrow to the Vietnamese community in Japan and in the country.
Tough family situation: Dream of changing life broken in a foreign land
It is known that Nguyen Quoc T.'s family situation is extremely difficult. He is the eldest son in the family, shouldering many expectations from his parents and relatives. In order to have enough conditions for T. to go to Japan to work, the family had to manage and borrow mone.y everywhere, with the hope that life would be better after the years he worked in a foreign country.
For many Vietnamese workers, Japan is not only a country to work in, but also a place to dream of a better future for their families. T. is also one of thousands of young Vietnamese people who carry that aspiration, accepting to be far from home, facing many challenges to shoulder great responsibilities.
The incident happened so quickly, not long after he set foot in the land of the rising sun, his hopes for a better life were shattered. The pai.n of T.'s family was compounded when they learned that T.'s father was currently suffering from terminal cancer, confined to a wheelchair, and completely dependent on his wife's care. T.'s mother was a housewife, single-handedly taking care of her sick husband and children. The family's income was almost non-existent, leaving them in dire straits.
Now, T.'s sudden passing has left the family not only facing immense loss but also a huge financial burden: not having enough mone.y to bring their chil.d back to their homeland, to their elderly parents and the land where they were born and raised. The cost of bringing a citizen who unfortunately passed away from Japan to Vietnam is enormous, including storage costs, legal documents, air transportation... For a poor and indebted family like T.'s, this is truly an insurmountable barrier without help from the community.
A wave of sympathy and a call for compassion
Immediately after the tragic news about Nguyen Quoc T. was widely shared on social media platforms, a wave of deep sympathy spread strongly. Thousands of people expressed their sorrow and grief over the passing of the brave young man and sent condolences to his family.
Under the posts, many comments from netizens expressed their understanding and desire to join hands to help: "I feel sorry for her, I feel sorry for her family, I hope benefactors will help her family"; "My condolences to the family, I hope she will soon return to her parents and hometown, I hope she will rest in peace"; "I feel so sorry, I hope benefactors will help her return to her family"; "The family situation is so heartbreaking. I hope benefactors will help her family...".
The power of the online community was once again demonstrated, as calls for help spread quickly, connecting kind-hearted people who wanted to share the burden with Nguyen Quoc T's family. This is a testament to the spirit of mutual love and support, "the rich help the poor", which is a fine tradition of the Vietnamese people.
