In Phu Quoc night market area, nearly a dozen people appeared on a day disguised as Sun Wukong or Tam Tibet Road, Tru Bat Kai to attract tourists to take pictures together to collect money.
Accordingly, on the evening of August 23, many residents and tourists at Phu Quoc night market (Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang province), suddenly witnessed 3 men dressed as Tang Santa, Sun Wukong and Tru Bat Kai being taken away by the authorities on official vehicles.
Initially, this group of people was invited to work to clarify some issues related to the security and order situation in Phu Quoc night market area. Through research, the group has been "practicing" in the night market gate area for a long time. Initially, they only sold confectionery for VND 10,000 to VND 20,000 per pack. Many visitors find it fun to buy candy and take photos with them. Seeing that many people asked for photos, the group began to ask guests to pay 50,000 VND after each time.
Previously, many residents and tourists visiting and shopping here also reflected on social networks about the tricks of enticing guests of people dressed as Tang Tang teachers and students in the movie Journey to the West.
"Seeing that it is possible, there are more and more Qi Qian, and there are dozens of them appearing at the same time. There was a man who finished taking pictures asking customers to pay up to 200,000 VND per person, leading to noisy quarrels, worsening the image of Phu Quoc tourism," said a trader in the market.
In the morning of August 24, Ms. Tran My Hiep - Chairman of Duong Dong Ward People's Committee - confirmed the incident and said that this was the second time that this group of "teachers and students of Sun Wukong" was invited to work on the security and order situation at Phu Quoc night market.
"In order to rectify the disorderly and security situation in Phu Quoc night market area, the Phu Quoc City Office of Culture and Information in cooperation with the Urban Order Team invited the above group of people to the headquarters to remind some security and order issues. After working, they went back," Hiep added.
According to Ms. Hiep, this group has also been reminded about not soliciting or demanding money from guests unreasonably. If the group is caught behaving inappropriately, causing insecurity and order, the locality will have solutions to handle it.
More than 1 year ago, in the area of Bach Dang Park, the gate of Phu Quoc night market also appeared a man dressed as Sun Wukong selling candy. "This person often gives candy to young children and does not say anything, when the child takes the candy away or peels the candy to eat, he asks for money from the parents or relatives of the baby," said a resident near the Phu Quoc night market area.
The sales tactics of this group of people increasingly make tourists and residents frustrated. A small trader near the gate of Phu Quoc night market said that the group has been paying attention to foreign tourists lately. Every time you see tourists taking pictures check-in at the night market gate, there will be a fake "Sun Wukong" or "Tang Tang" taking pictures with them.
After shooting, this person enticed visitors to buy lollipops for 10,000 VND / tree. If the whole group (3-4 "teachers and students of Tang Tang") come together to take pictures with guests, the joint photo fee will be 200,000 VND. Many visitors have to "suck the soot", pay so as not to be made difficult.
Information about the above incident, Mr. Huynh Thanh Trong, Head of Culture and Information Department of Phu Quoc City, said that in order to rectify the purchase and sale of tourists at Phu Quoc night market, this unit has agreed with the Urban Order Team of Duong Dong to conduct regular inspections in this area.
"For those disguised as characters in Journey to the West, the Urban Order Team, the ward police will invite them to work, if violations are detected (illegal collection of guests, taps ...) will carry out processing in accordance with the law," he said.
Not only Phu Quoc night market but also many other famous places also appear the same situation. Typically, in Nguyen Hue pedestrian street (Ho Chi Minh City) not long ago, every evening there would be some people dressed in Ton Wukong costumes, Mickey Mouse took pictures and then played games asking for money in the form of selling candy.
"At first he told me to ask for a picture and give me a candy. We took some pictures, then he asked me if I had some money, asked for some. I think they also make a living, so they give each person 10,000 VND," the victim said.
Accordingly, around 20:00, in the center of the pedestrian street, two young men dressed in Mickey and Sun Wukong mouse mascots appeared. They are constantly on the move, enticing visitors to take pictures. After taking photos, the group put candy in the hands of customers and began asking for money as "discretionary".
Mr. Minh Dung (Australian overseas Vietnamese) shared: "We gave them 10,000 VND, they criticized and demanded 20,000 VND. They said they were students so we helped. My children and I are overseas, seeing them do so is losing the Vietnamese style.
