The movie Journey to the West and the character of Te Thien Dai Thanh are probably too familiar to Vietnamese audiences. However, the mysteries surrounding the existence of the magical figure Sun Wukong always bring up many big question marks, and we can only wait for archaeological research to get a satisfactory answer.
After many years of searching and researching, archaeologists discovered Song Thanh Bao Son Temple in Baoshan Mountain, Fujian Province, China. It is estimated that this ancient tomb is 2.9m wide and 1.3m deep. Inside there is a magical connection with what happens in Journey to the West, which makes many people half-believe and doubt.
The tomb has two stele erected in the middle, the left stele is engraved with the word "Qi Thien Dai Thanh", the right is engraved "Tong Thien Dai Thanh", the bottom part of each stele has two small words "God". . This makes archaeologists ask, does Sun Wukong really exist? And if it is true, then after assisting Tang Tang to return sutras, Sun Wukong became Dou Chien Victory Buddha. This character has a high level of bravery, becomes a fairy again, surely can't di.e easily?
However, the fact is that Chinese archaeologists have discovered the tomb of Sun Wukong, inside even found Nhu Y stick, Kim Co ring. So what is the truth of this story?
After excavating two tombs and conducting an assessment, archaeologists have determined that this relic dates from the Yuan Dynasty. Moreover, the burial process is very meticulous, there is no trace of being faked by later generations. However, the strange thing is that the work Journey to the West was written by Ngo Thua An in the Ming Dynasty. So how did the previous dynasty, the Yuan Dynasty, appear to be the tomb of this character?
Through the process of researching documents, experts have discovered that, under the Nguyen Dynasty, there was once a writer named Duong Canh Hien who wrote a comedy series called Journey to the West.
In it, there is a passage from Ton Ngo Khong's confession:
Translated:
5 Siblings of the Little Saint:
The eldest sister Ly Son old model,
Chi Chi's second sister,
Great Brother Qi Tian, the Great Saint,
Little Saint Thong Thien Great Saint,
The third Tam Lang is hyperactive and playful.
From that, it follows that "Qi Thien Dai Thanh" and "Tong Thien Dai Thanh" are a couple of brothers. Thus, many people believe that the author Ngo Thua An was inspired by this comedy to create his work. In addition, building the character of Ton Ngo Khong fully converges the magic of the 5 brothers and sisters as in the legend, making a mythical hero image to pass on to future generations.
Although the identity of Thong Thien Dai Thanh has been confirmed, the truth about these two tombs is still a controversial archaeological issue. Because, according to many sources, inside those two tombs there are only a few artifacts dating from the Yuan Dynasty. Among them, archaeologists discovered an object shaped like Nhu Y stick and Kim Co ring in the legend.
According to the survey, a stick more than 7 meters long made of pure iron in the tomb. It is difficult to give a more suitable explanation for this stick as assuming this is the desired stick - the weapon of Sun Wukong in "Journey to the West".
But even so, many people still believe that Qi Tian Dai Thanh or Thong Thien Dai Thanh is actually a product of the rich imagination of the ancients. Because in the grave did not find any skeletons. Therefore, many experts believe that these two tombs were built by a fan of Journey to the West. Even this person is so thoughtful that he prepares funeral items like those in the original.
Talk about theories related to the existence of Sun Wukong. Another theory is that Qi Tian Dai Thanh is a real character. The prototype of this character is a sea monster in Hoai River named Vo Chi Ky. The character is described as having "an ape-like figure", "stronger than nine elephants".
Meanwhile, Ngo Thua An was originally from Hoai An (Jiangsu), he must have been familiar with the anecdote about this character since childhood, even borrowed many legends about Wu Chi Ky to create Ton Ngo. Are not. Therefore, later generations still have many people because of their admiration for this character, who believe that it is most likely the original burial tomb of Qi Tian Dai Thanh.
There are also some scholars who believe that Ton Ngo Khong is the archetype of the Tang Dynasty monk Thich Ngo Khong. Thich Ngo Khong is the secular identity of a layman who follows Tang Tang's attendant chariot. In 751 AD, he followed his assistant Huyen Trang to the West. Because of illness in Gandhara (Kien Da La country), he returned to the capital in 789. Thich Ngo Khong accompanied Huyen Trang for 40 years, in the East. West joined in translating and evangelizing, leaving behind many legends and legends.
