The incident occurred at around 5:00 p.m. on March 16, 2025, when a female driver was driving a Mercedes on Vo Nguyen Giap Street, heading from Thu Duc City to Dong Nai Province.
At Thu Duc intersection (Hiep Phu ward), the car suddenly crashed into 10 motorbikes stopped at a red light in front. The strong collision caused severe damage to many vehicles, causing traffic congestion in the area.
The incident injured 6 people and they were taken to the Eastern Military Hospital for first aid. Of these, 1 person was seriously injured and was transferred to Cho Ray Hospital for treatment. However, due to the critical condition, the patient was taken to Gia Dinh People's Hospital for emergency treatment on the way to the hospital.
On the morning of March 17, 2025, Gia Dinh People's Hospital confirmed that Ms. HTTT had passed away due to severe injuries.
The news of Ms. T.'s passing came so suddenly that many of her friends and colleagues were shocked. Many people wrote statuses to express their condolences and say goodbye to her, making the online community choke up.
"Unfortunately, the 28-year-old is an active member of the sign language interpreter community - a community of kind-hearted young people who help bridge the gap between the 3 million deaf and hard-of-hearing people and the society around them.
In Vietnam, the number of people who know how to use sign language is very small, because there are not many places to teach this language. Most of you who interpret sign language have to have another job to make a living. But that does not mea.n you give up your sign language career - simply because you all understand your mission of connecting the community.
She is also a volunteer supporting events for Hear Us Now. If the car hadnât sped into her, right now (the evening of March 17), she would be running a workshop event teaching about technology and how to prevent online scams for dozens of deaf and mute people in Ho Chi Minh City.
"It's heartbreaking that you'll forever be left lying on the street - just because of someone else's blameworthy mistake," the founding advisor of Hear.Us.Now - a project that supports skills training for the deaf/hearing impaired - shared on his personal page.
Many of T.'s friends and colleagues were shocked by the passing of "a kind person" when the next day's work was still waiting for him:
- On Saturday, I texted to ask to take your place so I could finish work at 6pm to translate for the workshop. On Sunday, I gave you a cup of milk tea but made an appointment for the next time, and there was no next time.
- So sad and heartbreaking. She lived a beautiful and meaningful life. The community is truly sorry to have lost a wonderful young person.
- My condolences to the family and the deaf community. I also have a deaf chil.d, so I understand and appreciate those who have accompanied, taught and helped the children. I appreciate and am grateful for your dedication to the community. Rest in peace! Love you!
Immediately after the incident involving Ms. T., on the morning of March 18, the fanpage Humans of Hear.Us.Now posted a clip using sign language with the content "If you drink alcohol, do not drive" as a reminder to everyone's awareness after the tragic deat.h of the female sign language interpreter.
Along with the video is the message: "HUN (Hear.Us.Now) and the deaf/hearing impaired community in Ho Chi Minh City hope that all of you will join hands to call on your friends and relatives to seriously implement this all too familiar call.
We do not do it because we are afraid of being fined, we do it because we care about the right to life of others. Please be serious, if you drink alcohol, do not drive.
Previously, the deaf people of this project also shared a status as a farewell and thank you to Ms. HTTT:
"The HUN family bids farewell to you. We are grateful for what you have done for the deaf/hearing impaired community. HUN, and 35 deaf/hearing impaired people, would like to take a minute of silence for you, to appreciate what you have done, you will always live in everyone's hearts."
Accordingly, the young gir.l HTTT "has studied sign language for nearly 7 years and devoted her youth to supporting interpretation for the deaf/hearing impaired, willing to devote herself to this career because this job makes me happier".
The Humans of Hear.Us.Now fanpage wrote these emotional lines: "Tonight, the blockchain introduction workshop for the deaf/hard of hearing community is still taking place.
You were supposed to be the main interpreter but HUN didn't have that chance today and in the future. May you rest in peace."
