TikToker Bop (Trung Hieu) has not yet regained consciousness after the horrific collision in Germany that killed two of his friends. His family and friends raised funds from the community to pay for his treatment, however, some netizens commented sarcastically, "You have money to study abroad and you're calling for help."
According to information from his family, Hieu was in a deep coma, had a serious brain injury, multiple body injuries and had to have part of his leg amputated.
Recently, Khanh Van, Trung Hieu's girlfriend, shared a post calling on the community to support his recovery journey through the GoFundMe fundraising page: " If possible, I hope everyone will open their hearts and help him, even just a little, to give him more hope, so that his recovery journey is not alone."
However, the act of calling for support suddenly became controversial on social networks, with some netizens expressing their lack of trust in the level of proper payment for the amount of charity money donated. "Rich people often call. While in Vietnam, there are so many people who are more miserable and homeless", "See Bap's mother, the rich still go begging, and after giving, they get scolded. I tell you the truth, this is the easiest job to make money", "Don't let it be like Bap's mother's case, after transferring it, make sure it becomes their money", are negative comments about the act of calling for donations for Bop.
Besides, there are still people who speak up in support, and reveal that not everyone who has the 'label' of an international student is rich. "Oh my gosh, everyone! In Germany, hospital fees are very high", "70% of people who study vocational training in Germany are from poor families. Only those who study abroad on their own are considered rich families. My brother and sister went to Germany to study and settled there, so I know that even though they settled down, working is still very difficult", "If you don't help, please don't be harsh with them".
Donation is not mandatory, above all this action only shows the spirit of sharing among compatriots.
Regarding Hieu's condition, lawyer Quach Vu, who was authorized by the male tiktoker's family to provide information, said: "Since the collision, Hieu has been in a coma, and in the first few days he suffered a brain hemorrhage, so he was in critical condition. Today (July 23), Hieu is out of danger, the breathing tube has been moved to his neck, and his health indicators are also improving."
Mr. Vu also said that Trung Hieu's mother went to Germany immediately after the accident and is currently taking care of her son at the hospital. She is currently "very sad and shocked" after the incident. According to the lawyer, traveling and living in Germany poses many difficulties for Hieu's family, especially when they are not fluent in the language and do not have relatives on the ground to support them.
Khanh Van also fell into a state of "shock and panic" after her boyfriend Trung Hieu's collision, according to Mr. Vu. For her and Hieu's family, every day is a psychological battle, "a nightmare that we don't know when it will end."
Nearly three weeks after the crash, the fundraising campaign to support Trung Hieu and his family has been receiving support from the community. The GoFundMe page initiated by Hieu's relatives and friends set a target of 150,000 euros (nearly 176,000 USD). As of 6:30 p.m. on July 23 (Vietnam time), the amount had exceeded the target, reaching more than 185,000 euros (more than 210,000 USD), with more than 8,200 donations.
The donated money will be used to cover living expenses, travel, and accommodation near the hospital for Hieu's mother, support rehabilitation therapy, and renovate housing suitable for people with disabilities in the future.
According to the description in the appeal, Hieu graduated from university with a degree in Laboratory Medicine in Vietnam, went to Germany in 2022 to study nursing and work at a nursing home.
Trung Hieu's girlfriend and lawyer Quach Vu also warned the community about the risk of fraudulent transfers to the wrong person during the fundraising process. Both emphasized that all donations should only be transferred directly through the official GoFundMe platform or a bank account under Hieu's mother's name.
As previously reported by the press, a serious traffic accident occurred in Frankfurt (Germany) on July 6, killing two Vietnamese twin brothers on the spot, one survived but was seriously injured. The surviving victim was Nguyen Trung Hieu, 27 years old. He is the owner of the TikTok account Bop with more than 175,000 followers, known by many people for his videos conveying positive messages and cheerful energy.
