Since April this year, the power struggle between Korea's largest entertainment group and the CEO of the label under Min Hee Jin's command has consumed a lot of media. NewJeans is the "child" being fought over, the main target of the incident.
After nearly half a year, HYBE finally made a move to "break up" with Min Hee Jin by forcing her to resign as CEO of ADOR and replacing her with a new person at the end of August. Having lost control of NewJeans, Min Hee Jin announced that she would leave the company and legal action would be taken. Amidst the chaos, NewJeans appeared extremely confused and scared.
The livestream on the afternoon of September 11 was the first time the five girls directly expressed their stance on this issue. Accordingly, NewJeans created their own YouTube account "nwjns", opened a 20-minute livestream, and directly expressed their stance for the first time on Min Hee Jin being replaced at ADOR. The group not only affirmed that Min Hee Jin had an irreplaceable role, asking HYBE to bring Min Hee Jin back before September 25, but also hinted at being "coldly abused" at the company.
Notably, member Hanni surprised many people when she revealed in this livestream that she was "ignored" by an employee of HYBE Group when she proactively greeted them.
Hanni's original post: "There's a makeup/hair room on the 4th floor of the HYBE building. Many artists come and go. One day, while I was waiting, a group and their manager passed by me and we greeted each other. Then I heard their manager say 'let it go'. They said it right to my face. I didn't understand why I had to go through this. I felt confused."
The female idol said that when she reported the incident to the director of ADOR, but this person suspected that she was lying because there was no concrete evidence: "When I reported to the new director, she deliberately ignored it, I realized that the person who protected us was no longer there. There was no superior who cared about us anymore. I told her honestly but she made me feel like a liar".
Hanni's story received a lot of attention from the online community, one of the two groups ILLIT and LE SSERAFIM was immediately suspected to be the person Hanni mentioned in the livestream. NewJeans fans then "flooded" to ILLIT and LE SSERAFIM's social media pages to criticize them for "ignoring" their idols.
Amidst the ongoing controversy, HYBE has issued a statement denying that Hanni (NewJeans) was being ignored. Specifically, the group said that after receiving the information, they checked the CCTV recording of the encounter between Hanni and the mentioned group, ILLIT, to verify, the clip lasted 7-8 minutes.
As a result, HYBE said that they saw Hanni and ILLIT interacting and greeting each other, and the group's manager did not say anything that implied "ignoring" the NewJeans group member. From here, the online community assumed that Hanni was lying to "blame" HYBE as well as the group under the corporation.
In the midst of the media war between Min Hee Jin and HYBE, both NewJeans and ILLIT are just "innocent children" caught up in it. Netizens advise each other not to comment too much about NewJeans because the girls are still young. But perhaps they forgot that ILLIT is not much older. ILLIT fans bitterly realized a problem, the same story, but ILLIT will be "hunted down and killed" with the most cruel words.
Having debuted for only half a year, ILLIT has suffered even more scandals than long-standing groups. ILLIT - NewJeans "we have each other", are both victims of the fight between the forces of the entertainment industry. But in another direction, ILLIT is the victim of the extreme NewJeans fans and the "double standards" of netizens.
