Only in the first 3 months of 2025, the entertainment industry has continuously received sad news about the artist's sudden death. After Kim Sae Ron, it was the turn of a music legend to leave forever at his home.
Korean media have just reported that the famous male singer Wheesung was found dead at 20:29 on March 10 (Korean time). His family found him unconscious at his home in Seoul's Gwangjin district and quickly called the police. Although the functional forces quickly arrived, Wheesung did not survive.
Police determined that the singer had taken some time before being discovered. Police are looking into the possibility that he may have taken an extreme approach or overdosed. At the moment, no signs of intrusion from the outside have been detected, and the police are also looking for whether Wheesung left a will.
Citing a source from Koreaboo, the male singer's management company confirmed that he had passed away. "It is heartbreaking to have to share this sad news with the fans who have given him so much support and love. Please pray for the deceased so that you may rest in peace. We will share the funeral home announcement later. We sincerely ask you to refrain from all speculative rumors to respect the families of the deceased, who are extremely grieving and shocked," said a company representative.
Wheesung was born in 1982, known to Vietnamese audiences as one of the prominent male idols of the 2nd generation of Kpop, starting his music career as a member of the boy band A4 in 1999. In 2002, he debuted under the "giant" YG Entertainment and released his debut solo album "Like A Movie" which received many positive reviews.
His signature R&B style and inspiring voice helped Wheesung quickly become one of the top artists in Korea at that time. He owns many hits in the 2000s such as With Me, Can't We, Insomnia, Love Is Delicious...
After leaving YG Entertainment in 2006, Wheesung continued his solo career and collaborated with many famous artists. Besides, he also participates in music production and acting in musicals, affirming his diverse talents.
However, in 2019, Wheesung collapsed when he got into trouble for illegally using the anesthetic propofol. In April 2020, the male singer was found unconscious at a hotel in Seoul, next to a bottle of etomidate - a drug with a similar effect to propofol.
During the investigation, police confirmed that Wheesung had used propofol several times between 2011 and 2013. Earlier in 2018, he was also investigated for the use of Zolpidem (a sedative drug similar to propofol), but there was not enough evidence to prosecute.
In March 2021, Wheesung was sentenced to 1 year in prison, 2 years in suspended prison and had to pay a fine of 60.5 million won for using banned substances. B.e.bo.i caused the male singer to be banned from broadcasting on major TV stations, including KBS. KBS said that the reason he was not allowed to appear in the station's programs was because of ethical and legal violations.
After the stumble, Wheesung decided to rebuild his life and actively return to the music industry. In 2023, the male singer held a concert to celebrate his 20th anniversary but did not resonate. However, he still did not give up and planned to hold a concert with singer KCM on March 15 in Busan.
Earlier on March 6, Wheesung also shared a photo on social networks with the message: "Weight loss is done, see you on March 15". However, by March 10, the male singer was no longer in the world. His sudden death made the public extremely shocked and pitiful.
Although the cause of death has not been confirmed, many people on social networks speculate that Wheesung died of drug abuse, due to his scandals from 5 years ago.
