7dnight's song "No Problem" from Rap Viet season 4 suddenly caused a global storm, especially in Korea. Covered by K-pop idols such as SEVENTEEN in front of 40,000 audiences, the song is creating a wave of controversy about the attraction of Vietnamese music.
As a product of the Vietnamese Rap program season 4, "It's Okay" was controversial from the beginning, when a part of the audience thought that 7dnight's rap song was too simple and lacked depth. But what is unexpected is that this song has exceeded all expectations to become a musical phenomenon not only in Vietnam but also spread to Korea and the world.
After being "trended" by Karina (aespa), Jeon Somi, TWS, ZB1, BOYNEXTDOOR and other K-pop idols, the song "It's Okay" immediately formed a dance challenge on TikTok. In particular, the chorus "Gwèn-cha-na ding dìng dinh dìng" has become a familiar sound on this platform, attracting more than 530,000 uses.
From South Korea, the song has surpassed many major international music products to top Spotify Korea's Viral 50 chart. This proves the strong influence and explosion of "It's Okay" in the global online community. But from here, too, a question arises: Does "It's Okay" really deserve this prominence, or is it merely a temporary " trend"?
Not stopping there, on February 8, SEVENTEEN made fans excited when the group sang the segment "Gwenchana" live in the song "It's Okay" right on the Jakarta stage. In particular, Hoshi, the leader of SEVENTEEN, performed a lovely choreography, making fans cheer non-stop.
Although it is a good thing for K-pop idols to sing Vietnamese songs that cause a fever in the fan community, there is an opinion that this is only a temporary change in trend, not really reflecting the sincere love for Vietnamese music.
The fact that SEVENTEEN and Korean idols sing "It's Okay" at events, or even wear leaf hats in concerts in the Philippines has created a new wind for Vietnamese fans. This makes many people think that SEVENTEEN has "won the hearts" of Vietnamese fans thoroughly. However, there is also no shortage of critical opinions that this group's participation in the "trend" of Vietnamese music is only market and does not delve into really understanding and loving Vietnamese culture.
Not to mention, in the past, SEVENTEEN has been to Vietnam within the framework of MAMA 2017, and since then, Vietnamese fans have not seen the group perform at a private concert in Vietnam. So, the question remains: Does SEVENTEEN really want to connect with Vietnamese fans for a long time or is it just taking advantage of the love of Vietnamese fans as a promotional tool?
Whether controversial or not, one thing that cannot be denied is that the song "It's Okay" has been an unimaginable success. From a somewhat controversial product in Vietnamese Rap, the song has risen to become a global phenomenon, with appearances on TikTok and Spotify Korea, popular with K-pop idols and bringing unforgettable moments on the international stage.
Although SEVENTEEN has not yet had an official concert in Vietnam, the explosion of "It's Okay" can be a big step forward for Vietnamese audiences to look forward to the day when this group will come to domestic fans.
However, will the excitement and affection that Vietnamese fans have for SEVENTEEN really be sustainable if the group does not continue to maintain this connection? Can SEVENTEEN fulfill the role of "leading" Vietnamese music to the world, or are they merely participating in a trending trend?
Despite the controversy, one thing is for sure, Vietnamese music is already on the world map, and no matter what, moments like this will be the pride of not only artists like 7dnight but also the entire Vietnamese music scene.
