Previously, the internet was abuzz with the news that a female employee of Nha Nam bookstore had lost contact with everyone. It is worth mentioning that the last time the camera recorded this female employee was when she was preparing to go to work. Currently, the whereabouts of the female employee have been found.
At noon on August 10, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Mai (31 years old), an employee at a bookstore in Ho Chi Minh City, returned home safely.
"Mai has returned home safely, thanks to the prompt and dedicated intervention of the authorities, along with the support of the community and the press. Mai left home for personal reasons, not because she was 'kidnapped online' as many speculated online," Nha Nam's announcement stated.
This information quickly attracted the attention of the online community, especially when before that, Ms. Mai's "disappearance" made her family, colleagues and public opinion worried, widely shared on many forums and community groups in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces.
According to published information, after being invited to work by the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department's Criminal Police Department (PC02), Ms. Nguyen Phuong Mai returned to reunite with her family after many days of losing contact.
According to the authorities, Ms. Mai said that on the morning of August 6, she left her house in Xuan Hoa Ward (HCMC) by motorbike taxi, traveled to Dong Nai, then continued to take a bus to Da Lat. There, she rented a hotel and stayed alone for many days.
The reason why Ms. Mai decided to leave home was due to the pressure of debt and work. Ms. Mai admitted that she owed the company where she worked tens of millions of dong, and also borrowed money from the bank. She had to pay the debt every month but her income was not enough to cover it. Her family did not have the means to support her financially, causing her to fall into a state of stress and want to find a quiet place to temporarily "escape" the pressure.
On August 8, upon learning that her family and community were searching for her everywhere, Ms. Mai proactively texted her relatives in the evening, reassuring them that she was safe and would return the next day. At the same time, the police determined her whereabouts in Da Lat and brought her to Ho Chi Minh City for further investigation.
At the authorities, Ms. Mai said: "I realize my behavior was wrong and caused my family and many people to worry."
Previously, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Lan (born in 1989), Mai's older sister, said that on the morning of August 6, around 8:00 a.m., her sister left her house on Hoang Sa Street (Xuan Hoa Ward) to go to work as usual. However, only about 30 minutes later, the company called to say that Mai had not arrived at work.
Worried about Mai, the family immediately checked the security camera footage near their home and discovered that at around 8am that same day, the subject got on a motorbike taxi and headed towards the city centre. From that point on, all contact with Mai was cut off.
The same day, the family went to Xuan Hoa Ward Police to report the incident. Maiâs information and identification photos were widely shared on social media, along with a call for community support in the search. The incident quickly became a hot topic, attracting tens of thousands of shares within just a few hours.
During the days when Ms. Mai was âmissing,â many people were concerned that she might have been scammed, lured, or even kidnapped. Colleagues at the bookstore and the book-loving community also continuously posted, hoping to find clues.
A representative of Nha Nam Bookstore said that they have actively coordinated with the family and authorities to search for the employee, and at the same time hope that everyone will share information in a verified manner, avoiding creating pressure or making unfounded speculations.
When Ms. Mai returned safely, the company sent thanks to the police force, press agencies and the online community for their quick and effective support.
Fortunately, the incident ended safely, but its aftermath has left many people pondering. Ms. Mai is now back home, continuing to stabilize her mental state and deal with personal issues. The family expressed relief and thanked everyone who helped during the search.
