He graduated with a degree in Petrochemical Engineering from Hanoi University of Science and Technology, was in the Top 12 of the 2010 Television Host Contest and won the First Prize of the Talented and Elegant Capital Students 2010. Before choosing a career in television, he tried his hand at Chemistry for nearly 2 years, received a Master's scholarship in Korea, but realized that the profession was not suitable. When returning to VTV, Son Lam felt that he "belonged here".
Regarding his personal life, BTV Son Lam married his wife Lan Huong in 2019 after 6 years of dating. The couple currently has two children and often shares happy moments on social media. He confided about his wife: "We understand each other's work, so I can leave early and come home late, forget anniversaries, but my 'roof' is always happy to let me make up for it. That is something I always cherish."
