Da Chuc: Child star plays Ma Da, chosen because of her prominent forehead, dark skin, and only lives with her mother.

After Ma Da was released, the audience was also particularly impressed with child actress Da Chuc - the role of little Nhung. This was her first time in cinema and she took on a long-term role in a difficult genre like horror, but she still had a good performance.

"Ma Da" is inspired by spiritual legends in the river area, revolving around Mrs. Le (Viet Huong), who specializes in retrieving bodies of people who have drowned in the Nam Can mangrove forest. After her husband passed away, she raised her daughter - Nhung (Da Chuc) - alone to study. Despite many people's objections because the job is dangerous, Mrs. Le still searches for the bodies of drowned people. Nhung suddenly disappears when she becomes the target of a supernatural force. The main character's search for her child reveals the details of "ma da" - the soul of a betrayed girl.

These days, going to crowded places, Da Chuc confided that he was very happy when many adults recognized him as little Nhung in the movie Ma da. Da Chuc's "debut" on the big screen made an impression because of his natural acting, especially in horror scenes.

2 years ago, Da Chuc applied for the role of Nhung along with about 100 other candidates. The requirements for this character were to be around 10 years old, have a round face, have the features of a country child, and be stubborn. Through image screening, 20 children were selected and after a direct meeting with the film crew, only 5 remained. However, in the casting round, only 3 children remained and Da Chuc was chosen because they had many similarities in appearance and age to the character. Actress Viet Huong confided that she "chose" Da Chuc because "She has a prominent forehead and dark skin like me when I was young".

Director Nguyen Huu Hoang also acknowledged: "In Da Chuc, the closeness and connection with artist Viet Huong is very clear. Finding a child actor who can both maintain naturalness and act is very difficult, but Da Chuc can do it. When I describe what I want him to do, he learns quickly and knows how to adjust his acting according to the requirements."

Receiving a role in a horror film, Da Chuc was excited and nervous because she loved reading horror stories and listening to ghost stories. However, in the first days on set, when she had to act in a scene where she was soaked in mud, the 9-year-old girl born and raised in the city was afraid of getting dirty and whined, not daring to lie down in the mud. Artist Viet Huong had to keep a cold face: "Lie down, if I don't lie down, how can we film?" Seeing "ma Le" soaking in mud and water day and night, Da Chuc put aside her fear and followed suit.

Mr. Ngoc Thach - media representative of the film Ma da - said that Da Chuc's role is closely related to the female lead Viet Huong, so both of them have many scenes filmed in mud and underwater. "Although there is a stunt double, 80 - 90% of the scenes are filmed by Da Chuc, some days filming until 2 - 3 am". During 35 days following the film crew filming in Nam Can (Ca Mau), Da Chuc excitedly boasted: "I got to explore life in the river area, go on a sampan for the first time, see a mudskipper, and learn about mangrove trees".

In Ma da, the emotional scenes between mother and daughter Le and baby Nhung through the harmonious acting between artist Viet Huong and baby Da Chuc moved the audience. Perhaps growing up in similar circumstances to the character - the child of a single mother - Da Chuc grasped and portrayed well the feelings of a child who understood the feeling of not having a father by his side. Ms. Boi Ngoc - Da Chuc's mother - confided: "When he was 6 months old, Da Chuc no longer lived with his father. When he was in first grade, I once heard his homeroom teacher say that he asked her "Teacher, what is divorce?". Growing up without a father, when he went to film, he was pampered by his uncles and was carried on his shoulders very much. Although he was young, he was very understanding."

Talking about Da Chuc's introduction to art, Ms. Boi Ngoc said: "At only 6 months old, Chuc already loved to dance and sing, and knew how to dance to the song Con buom xuan. He also lived with his grandmother, so when he was a little older, the two of them often watched TV shows together and remembered the names of the actors and the movies they were in. Seeing that, 3 years ago, I let my child go to dance classes. The teachers praised him for his bright face, so I encouraged him to audition for commercials and fashion photos. He appeared in several commercials for milk, water purifiers, real estate, and played small roles in TV shows that have been broadcast such as Hoa Hong Cho Som Mai, Ông Bố Đồ Táp, Dung Khoc Co Anh Day Roi or are about to be broadcast such as Chan Troi Moi, Mua Say Troi Hoa, Chiec Vong Ngoc Bich".

I don't know if it's because Da Chuc's face is sad and her personality is quiet, so the roles in the above films are mostly girls with a somewhat difficult and miserable life. In real life, the life of a mother and child is quite boring. Because she is a single mother, raising a young child, Ms. Boi Ngoc cannot avoid difficulties and hardships in life; she has to go through many different jobs: office, media, accounting... Since Da Chuc started acting in commercials and films, the life of the mother and child has been more joyful because they get to go to many places and live in the warm, loving atmosphere of the film crew.
