After a period of theaters, the movie "Sister-in-law" starring Hong Dao, Viet Huong, and Ngoc Trinh earned more than 93 billion VND, ranking second in the Vietnamese theater market revenue in the first week of the new year 2025.

According to data from the box office observer unit Box Office Vietnam, director Khuong Ngoc's film in the last three days earned from 1 to 2 billion VND per day. This is also the film with the best achievement of director Khuong Ngoc.

The film script exploits the relationship between sister-in-law and sister-in-law, almost encapsulating the story in a day and night when the funeral takes place at an old house in the countryside of the sea.

According to many film experts, with the current ticket sales rate, the movie "Sister-in-law" will soon reach 100 billion VND. This may be the first Vietnamese film of 2025 to reach this number. Meanwhile, the movie "Kaleidoscope" had a sharp decline in sales.

From a revenue of a few hundred million VND in a day, the film currently only collects less than 100 million VND. On January 5, the film only earned 82 million VND (as of the afternoon of January 5). Currently, the screening of "Kaleidoscope" has dropped sharply. From more than 1,000 screenings per day, it dropped to more than 200 screenings per day.

The movie "Kaleidoscope" has only achieved revenue of 5.6 billion VND. With the current ticket sales situation, the film is likely to leave the theater with only 6-7 billion VND. And with this number, the film crew of "Kaleidoscope" is likely to suffer heavy losses. Because according to estimates, the film crew of "Kaleidoscope" can spend about 20-30 billion VND to implement this project. According to the division in cinemas, usually an investment project of 20 billion VND must reach at least 40 billion VND to break even.

According to statistics from the independent unit Box Office Vietnam, 404 Run Now is the leading name in the total domestic box office revenue table last week. This is the 2nd consecutive week that the film of the land of the golden pagoda is crowned king at Vietnamese theaters.

In 3 days of the weekend, 404 Run Now pocketed 10.5 billion VND, with 120 thousand tickets sold over about 5,300 screenings. By the end of January 5, the total revenue of Thai comedy films was recorded at 72 billion VND - double the achievement as of the end of last week.

The revenue earning speed of 404 Run Now surprised observers. Because before its release, the film was not considered a candidate with high box office potential, not to mention that there were not many massive promotional campaigns.

Two other Vietnamese films released earlier, Prince Bac Lieu and Linh Miao, have both exhausted their appeal. The duo only earned a drip on the small number of screenings, it is expected that the time to leave the theater is not far away.

This week, Vietnamese theaters have 5 new films appearing, respectively NCT Dream Mystery Lab (Music), Invincible 2: Pantera (Crime), Lembayung: The Soul of the Pregnant Woman (Horror), Fire God (Action) and Whispers of the Heart (Animation).

All 5 names mentioned above are not rich in potential to become box office hits. The heat reduction at Vietnamese theaters is expected to continue to last.
