Ms. Vu Thu Huong - Principal of Minh Chuan Primary and Secondary School (Minh Chuan Commune, Luc Yen District, Yen Bai Province) said that the person in the photo above is teacher Hoang Minh Diep (preschool teacher) who has worked at the school since 2019 and is an excellent teacher at the district level.

The female principal shared that in the first days of the flood, because teacher Diep's house was located opposite the school, she and some other teachers were the first to record, update images, fix the damage, and clean up the school.

On September 9, when the flood water on the Chay River rose, Ms. Diep and the teachers of the school "fled the flood" together. The teachers transported assets and teaching and learning materials to the second floor of the school until after 3:00 a.m.

"The photo was taken at around 3 p.m. on September 12. That day, the water was gradually receding, there was a lot of mud, and teachers from the school came to clean up the mud to prepare to welcome the children back to school," said Ms. Huong.

Teacher Hoang Minh Diep, the character in the photo shared, on September 12, after the water gradually receded and the house was cleaned, she and a number of teachers and residents immediately went to the school to start cleaning the school while the water had not completely receded, pushing out the thigh-deep mud from the classrooms.

During her break to eat a pack of raw instant noodles, Ms. Diep was photographed by a colleague using her phone. Her colleague also took photos of many other people, recording the memorable moment and posting it on the school's Fanpage.

When she learned that her photo had become famous, Ms. Diep was very happy but also embarrassed by the praise. "It's not just me. Other teachers are like that, everyone works hard for the common cause. I was very touched but absolutely do not accept those beautiful names for myself," Ms. Diep shared.

Ms. Vu Thu Huong, Principal of Minh Chuan Primary and Secondary School, added that according to preliminary statistics, the school has 10 teachers and 170 students whose houses were buried by landslides and swept away by floodwaters, of which 36 students were severely affected.

"The school cannot yet have specific statistics. However, because the flood water rose too high and too quickly, although teachers moved all assets and machinery to the second floor of the classroom buildings, the flood water had risen to half of the second floor, so it can be said that the assets were completely damaged, especially electronic items," said Ms. Huong.

In the past few days, the cleaning has not been completed. It is expected that on Wednesday (September 18), students of Minh Chuan Primary and Secondary School will be able to return to school. "To prepare for students to return to school, the school is currently trying to clean up with the help of local authorities and many organizations, associations, and functional forces. We will try so that on Wednesday, students can return to class," Ms. Huong added.
