In recent days, the North has been suffering from the consequences of natural disasters and floods after Typhoon Yagi. Recently, a character who went viral all over the internet, "boss Mai" - the owner of a famous beauty salon, caused a stir when he donated more than 4 billion VND.
"Mai and her husband understand the loss and pain of the people, both material and spiritual, because both of them were born and raised in the Central and Northern regions, and have experienced hardships and losses when big storms passed, and all the wealth accumulated throughout their lives and hard work were swept away by the floodwaters.
Understanding that, the couple Mai - Khanh discussed and decided to go directly to hand over 3 billion in cash and 50 tons of rice to the people," Ms. Phan Thi Mai - General Director of the Mailisa beauty salon chain wrote on her personal Facebook page recently.
According to the businesswoman commonly known as Mai Lisa, at first she was still calculating her finances, planning to support 500 million VND. The reason was because at the beginning of the year she and her husband Hoang Kim Khanh had done the Zero-Dong Kitchen project worth more than 70 billion VND, and on September 5, they also gave 153 gifts and bicycles to students in Dak Nong, so the economy was somewhat tight.
However, after Mr. Khanh convinced that people in remote provinces were already facing many difficulties and were now suffering from severe natural disasters, the couple agreed to contribute 3 billion VND (based on the number of views she livestreamed).
"This afternoon, Mai will go to Mr. Dat's Saigon rice warehouse to order 50 tons of rice, then load it onto the truck. At 5:00 p.m., Mai and her staff will travel to Hanoi by plane. Tomorrow afternoon (September 12), they will arrive at one of the five locations: Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang. It is expected that after 3 days, the rice will be transported to the localities.
Although she had contacted the local authorities in advance, Mai herself wanted to go directly to survey the actual situation. If she saw that some people in difficult circumstances had lost their homes, the couple would build some more charity houses," Mai presented her relief plan.
According to YouNet Media's Q3/2023 data, Mailisa is the most popular beauty salon brand on social networks with more than 135,000 discussions, accounting for nearly 40% of the top 10 market share and far surpassing the rest of the rankings.
The name Mailisa became "viral" thanks to the group dance videos of the staff, as well as the company's grand events. Most recently in July, on the occasion of its 26th anniversary, Mailisa held a grand music festival right on Nguyen Hue walking street (HCMC), inviting a series of A-list stars and opening the event completely free of charge.
Ms. Phan Thi Mai was born in 1975 in Tan Dan commune, Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province in a farming family. The family has 2 siblings, her father died when she was 11 years old, her mother was illiterate. The "beauty salon boss" spent her childhood following her mother to the forest to collect firewood, sell vegetables, and sell fish at the market.
Before founding the Mailisa cosmetic clinic in 1998 - the predecessor of the current Mailisa beauty salon chain - Ms. Mai worked many jobs such as a leather shoe worker, restaurant waitress... Thanks to meeting a customer who worked as a hairdresser, Ms. Mai started to step into the beauty industry and gradually built the "empire" Mailisa as it is today.
Although Mailisa's revenue is not disclosed, Ms. Mai once said in a video posted on social media that every month Mailisa spends tens of billions on employee salaries, with the lowest janitor salary being over 10 million.
Ms. Mai is also known as a hard-working businesswoman who regularly does charity work, most notably the Zero-Dong Kitchen project built in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City. Owner Mailisa said that if she rented a space to do it, she didn't know how long it would last, so she decided to spend more than 30 billion to buy land and build a 6-story house as a kitchen facility, then spend more than 40 billion to ensure the kitchen can operate continuously and long-term.
Previously, in September 2023, Ms. Mai and her husband also cooperated with the District 12 Police and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of District 12 to organize a charity program to donate 22 tons of rice and 1,100 gifts worth 550 million VND to disadvantaged households in the area. Duc Tho District in Ha Tinh Province - Ms. Mai's hometown - is also the place where the owner of Mailisa often goes to do charity work.
