Recently, the information that a restaurant intends to "earn" from customers when selling 3 bowls of vermicelli for 1.2 million VND on Tet has caused outrage in the online community. Immediately, the authorities stepped in and the restaurant had to accept a bitter end.
On the evening of January 31 (i.e. the 3rd day of the Lunar New Year), according to Tuoi Tre Online, Ms. Hoang Thi Tuyet Lan, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Bach Khoa ward (Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi), said that immediately after grasping the information, she directed the ward police to clarify that the vermicelli shop at 54 Bach Mai was reflected in the collection of 1.2 million VND/3 bowls of vermicelli on the night of January 29 (the 1st day of Tet). According to Ms. Lan, this is to serve the verification and clarification of whether or not there is a problem of 'slashin.g'. If there is 'slashin.g', it will be handled according to regulations. Ms. Lan also added that when invited to work, at first the owner was very cooperative and admitted that there was a mistake.
Specifically, the restaurant sells 40,000 VND/bowl, but the owner "jokingly said 400,000 VND/bowl and quoted 1.2 million VND/3 bowls of vermicelli". After that, unexpectedly, the customer thought it was real, so he transferred the payment of 1.2 million VND." Through information captured from neighbors and the owner of the restaurant committed to selling only 40,000 VND/bowl, but until now, the owner has occasionally joked with customers that it is 400,000 VND/bowl.
This matter has been explained by the ward police and asked the owner of the establishment to make a specific commitment to this content. The owner of the establishment also said that he had actively apologized immediately on social networks and wanted to meet customers again to apologize and transfer mone.y back, but not yet...", Ms. Lan added.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Bach Khoa ward also emphasized that although he explained "teasing", it is clear that with this Tet holiday, "teasing" is inappropriate. "This is a great lesson for the owner of this facility and also a general lesson. It's okay to joke if you know each other, and customers who come to eat and drink on the 1st of Tet and joke like that are inappropriate. We ask the owner of the facility to use all measures to contact the customer to apologize, coordinate, discuss and solve and if it is wrong, it will be handled in accordance with regulations," Ms. Lan added.
Previously, a social network user named T.N. shared on his personal page about his unhappy experience on the night of the 1st of Tet at the noodle shop at No. 54 Bach Mai, Bach Khoa Ward, Hai Ba Trung District (Hanoi). She said that when she went to dinner with her father and brother without asking the price in advance, when she counted the mone.y, she was informed that the price was 1.2 million VND for 3 bowls of vermicelli, which startled the whole family. "Experience for anyone going out for Tet: remember to ask the price in advance. Personally, I can't go back to 54 Bach Mai anymore. The 2nd day is not cold, but people's hearts are freezing. Well, let's go and replace people," - Thu Nguyet's account added.
Immediately after the post, a user named N.O, who claimed to be the sister of the owner, said: "Hello, I am the owner of the restaurant at 54 Bach Mai. If you eat three full bowls and have to pay 1.2 million, I invite you to immediately report to the ward police. My family only dares to increase the price of 5,000 to 10,000 VND for a bowl of vermicelli on Tet Day. The highest is only 60,000 for a full bowl. Is it fun for you to post without images, without grounds, affecting other people's business like that?"
However, after being provided with evidence by the customer with a transfer invoice of 1.2 million VND, the owner apologized to the customer, asked for information to reconcile and transfer the excess mone.y. This person said that his brother often jokes with customers and perhaps the customer misunderstood so he transferred the mone.y like that.
She also explained that because the restaurant was crowded, the staff did not immediately check the amount received, but only heard the notice that the mone.y had been transferred, which led to this incident. After confirming the error, Ms. Oanh admitted that the fault belonged to the restaurant and expressed her desire to contact the customer to apologize and refund the excess mone.y. "The actual order only costs 120,000 VND, but the restaurant receives up to 1.2 million VND. The difference is too large, and this is completely the fault of the shop. We look forward to sending a sincere apology and refunding the amount to the guest," she shared.
The restaurant has also left its phone number and contact information under the customer's post on social networks in the hope that customers will respond. Besides, the representative of the restaurant also admitted that teasing about the price is inappropriate, especially on Tet days when the price issue is very sensitive. The restaurant is committed to learning from experience and not allowing a similar situation to occur in the future.
