The story of a woman in Bac Ninh who went online to ask for a benefactor to lend her 8 taels of gold to treat her chil.d's illness more than 20 years ago is receiving much public attention.
In recent days, social networks have been abuzz with the incident of a woman named Hai Nam (born in 1983, residing in Cho town, Yen Phong district, Bac Ninh) posting an article online with the hope of finding the benefactor who lent her 8 taels of gold to treat her daughter's hemangioma more than 20 years ago.
The story immediately attracted the attention of many people after being posted. Many people expressed their hope that Ms. Hai Nam could find that kind benefactor based on the detailed information about the location and residence that she provided. Some netizens also tagged the names of acquaintances with characteristics similar to Ms. Hai Nam's description as a way to help.
However, some people think that the chance of finding Hai Nam's benefactor is very slim because more than 2 decades have passed. Many people are even skeptical, thinking that the above story is just a way for the post owner to "attract views", "not true"...

In response to mixed reactions from public opinion, on the afternoon of March 15, Mr. Do Tuan Linh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Cho town (Yen Phong district) spoke up, saying that immediately after receiving information on social networks, representatives of the police and the residential group went down to verify information about Ms. Hai Nam.
"Ms. Nam is from Hoa Tien commune, married to a man from An Ninh village, Yen Phu commune, Yen Phong district. Recently, Ms. Nam rented a snack shop in Cho town. She did not register her temporary residence or temporary absence in Cho town," said Mr. Tuan Linh.

The Chairman of the Cho Town People's Committee further revealed that Ms. Nam has been doing charity work regularly in recent times. People consider her a good person, with no bad reputation. According to the Chairman, although they have Ms. Nam's phone number, the commune police and authorities have not been able to contact her for the past few days.
"We have been calling Ms. Nam and her relatives for the past few days but have not been able to reach them. The verification of gold loans as shared on social networks is currently not possible," said Mr. Do Tuan Linh.

Previously, on March 13, Ms. Hai Nam shared a long letter saying that on March 11, 2004, her daughter was hospitalized for the second time due to leukemia. She was helped by a woman named Nga (born in 1980) with 8 taels of gold to treat her daughter. From the Children's Hospital in Hanoi, she followed this woman to her house in Phu Tho to get the gold, the way there had to cross a river.
They took the train, the last station was near a small barracks with two concrete pillars, with an iron sign across it with red letters. Around the barracks, people were selling many dried palm fruits and crabapples. The two got off the train and walked to the nearby ferry terminal. At the ferry terminal was a very large tree, with many vines spreading out from its base like a banyan tree.

Ms. Nga is an ethnic minority, has 3 sisters, the countryside dishes include cassava cake and salted cassava leaves stewed with fish. Their family lives in a stilt house, has a flower garden in front of the house. The garden is large, with lots of corn. "Ms. Nga said her grandfather is the head of the family. When he came back, he gave me a talisman to ward off ghosts and cure my chil.d's illness," the mother wrote.
Ms. Hai Nam also said that from then until 2005, every time she took her chil.d to Hanoi for medical treatment, she was able to pay Ms. Nga 1 tael of gold (at that time Ms. Nga lived alone in Cau Giay district). In 2006, the benefactor visited the mother and chil.d in Bac Ninh, probably to collect the debt, but seeing that the family was so poor, he bought them a bag of rice, some meat and two bags of instant noodles and then left.

Since 2008, the mother has lost contact with her benefactor. Every year, Hai Nam asks someone to inquire about her whereabouts. In 2009, she returned to Phu Tho for two days; in 2015, she also returned for a few days, but she was unable to find Nga.
"Now I ask the community to help me share because I still have 3 more taels of gold that I have not been able to pay you back. I am grateful to you for helping me and my daughter during difficult times and taking care of my daughter when she was in the hospital, so that I have time to work extra to raise my chil.d. The pho restaurant I work at is at the gate of the maternity hospital called Hop, I serve from 5am to 9am," the mother informed. At the end of the letter, Ms. Hai Nam earnestly wrote: "Sister, I have been looking for you for many years, are you well? Is life okay? Please contact me, sister."
