According to the initial investigation, around 9:50 p.m. on December 18, 2023, the police received information about the discovery of a man's body floating on the beach in the middle of the Red River, in Nhat Tan ward (Tay Ho).

Through verification, the victim is Nguyen Viet U. (born in 2003, residing in Nghia Hung district, Nam Dinh province), missing since December 14, 2023. The forensic agency concluded that the cause of Mr. U.'s death was asphyxiation (drowning).

Previously, Nguyen Xuan L. (a tenant in the same room as U.) said that around 5:00 p.m. on December 14, the victim told him that she was going to Gia Lam on a motorbike to hang out with friends who had arranged in advance.

At 9:24 p.m., U. texted L. with the content "Please transfer money", but L did not respond to the message. At 9:28 p.m. the same day, the victim called L. on zalo and said "I'll transfer money to you so I can transfer money to Shipper", this person agreed.

After that, L. transferred to U. the MB account number named "Nguyen Viet U." with an amount of 30 million VND. At around 11 p.m., L. called the victim to ask if he was coming home, but the phone was locked. The next day, L. continued to call U. many times at 10:00, 13:00, 14:00... but all were subscribed.

Suspecting that something was wrong, L. decided to turn on the computer in U.'s office that was being used and access the victim's logged-in Facebook page to search for information. L. discovered that U. had been texting back and forth with a Facebook account named "An Yeu" with the preliminary content of a romantic conversation between a boy and a girl and a date.

"An Yeu" arranged for the victim to come to this friend's place and sent a location in Bac Ninh. When he arrived at the location where his online girlfriend met U., he saw a very large group of people, so he texted to ask "why are there so many people?", the other person replied "this is your friend, don't be shy" end of call.

At about 5:00 p.m. on December 18, the family called U.'s phone number and saw that it was ringing and a stranger answered the phone, saying that someone had rescued the victim at Nhat Tan bridge.

During the investigation, the police determined that the 7 subjects mentioned above had gathered in a gambling group led by Hoang Van Ha. Ha and her group discussed renting a 2-story house in Que Vo district, Bac Ninh province as a place to live and operate.

To attract the "prey", Oanh created an account named "An Yeu" on Facebook and actively made friends, got acquainted, and dated the victim. After that, Oanh lured the victim to a rented house in Que Vo district and enticed U. to play black and red.

After playing for a while, U. lost all the cash and pawned the motorbike he was riding, a total of 80 million VND. At about 11:35 p.m. on December 14, the victim was given 500,000 VND to take a taxi. When he got back to the area near Vinh Tuy bridge, Long Bien district (Hanoi), he got out of the car and walked...

Tay Ho district police said that the authorities are continuing to investigate and clarify what happened from the time U. got out of the taxi until people discovered the body. At the same time, we ask people to report immediately if anyone knows, witnesses or has related information.
