At 12:09 on January 31, the Su-22 aircraft, number 5873 of the 921st Air Regiment, Division 371, Air Defense - Air Force, was piloted by Captain Tran Ngoc Duy, 3rd level pilot. , took off the first flight, training flight number 206.

At 12:27, during landing, the plane crashed, the pilot was ordered to parachute but tried to save the plane. However, the plane crashed and the pilot died.

Pilot Tran Ngoc Duy (born in 1992), hometown Vu Thu district, Thai Binh province; residing in Nam Cuong ward, Yen Bai city, Yen Bai province; Deputy Squadron, Chief of Staff of 1st Squadron, 921st Air Regiment, 371st Division.

Comrade Tran Ngoc Duy joined the army in September 2010, trained as a military aircraft officer at the Air Force Officer School and experienced the following duties and positions: Pilot, 2nd Squadron, Regiment 937, Division 370, Air Defense - Air Force; pilot, Deputy Squadron Leader, 1st Squadron, 921st Regiment, 371st Division.

After that, he was the Deputy Squadron Leader - Chief of Staff of Squadron 1, Regiment 921, Division 371 of the Air Defense - Air Force.

During the course of the mission, Comrade Tran Ngoc Duy has accumulated a total of 725 hours and 25 minutes of flight time. He was awarded the title of Grassroots Emulation Fighter in 2020. He was promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant in 2014, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2016, and promoted to the rank of first lieutenant. Senior lieutenant to Captain in 2021.

Immediately after the incident, the Ministry of National Defense directed the Air Defense - Air Force and related agencies and units to urgently overcome the consequences, investigate and clarify the cause of the accident; together with functional agencies and Party committees, local authorities and mass organizations to visit, encourage family and do policy work for Captain Tran Ngoc Duy and his family.

By the morning of February 1, information from the Air Defense Force, the Ministry of Defense decided to promote the officer rank ahead of time for pilot Tran Ngoc Duy.

According to the decision of the Ministry of National Defense, pilot Tran Ngoc Duy was promoted to the rank of officer ahead of time from captain to major.

In addition, the funeral of Major pilot Tran Ngoc Duy was held according to military rites.

"On the fourth day of Tet, Mr. Duy flew out first to go to Yen Bai on the fifth day. Mr. Duy promised that next Saturday (January 14) he would go to Noi Bai airport to pick up his parents and children, but...", Phuong - wife Comrade Duy choked.

Pilot's wife Tran Ngoc Duy said her husband had a dream of becoming a pilot since childhood. As a child, because of car sickness, Duy asked his parents to buy a swivel chair to practice, determined to pass and take the pilot exam.

Pilot Tran Ngoc Duy was told by his teammates that he had a very good flying skill. Before moving to Yen Bai, he had good flying skills while studying and performing missions in Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan.

"At first when I heard the news, I thought Duy could skydive and was only injured. Until now, I still don't believe that Duy died. Normally, before flying, Duy only texted 'Daddy, let's fly' and the house was close to the house. You should hardly lock the door, but today the door is locked very carefully, the comrades have to find the lock forever to find it", Captain Duy's wife cried.

The visitation ceremony is from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on February 1. The memorial service is from 12:30 to 13:00 on the same day. After the memorial ceremony, pilot Tran Ngoc Duy's coffin was moved to his hometown Thai Nguyen.
