The case of a teacher asking for money to buy a laptop: Strange recording revealed, many parents let their children stay home from school
On the morning of September 30, Mr. Le Cong Minh, Principal of Chuong Duong Primary School, District 1, confirmed that this morning, 24 out of 38 students of class 4/3 did not come to class after the incident of a teacher asking for money to buy a laptop.
According to Dan Tri, on the evening of September 29, many parents of class 4/3, Chuong Duong Primary School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) said that they had sent notices through the nanny to ask for their children to take a leave of absence on September 30. This is the class with teacher TPH as the homeroom teacher and was caught up in the complaint "Teacher asked parents to support money to buy personal computers".
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Ngan, Head of the Parents' Representative Committee of class 4/3, shared that as of 7:00 p.m. on September 29, she had not received any official information from the school about the temporary suspension of teacher TPH's class and the plan to arrange classes for students on September 30.
In particular, according to parents, there is an audio recording that is said to be a speech by teacher TPH in an internal meeting of the school, in which there are very aggressive comments and harsh curses towards parents.
"Parents are very worried and confused and currently do not dare to send their children back to school. The number as of tonight is about more than 20 students," Ms. Ngan informed.
Mr. Tran (* parent's name has been changed) also said that he will let his child stay home from school tomorrow. "My child is still young, only in 4th grade, so he cannot proactively handle problems at school. There are many things that he does not dare tell his parents, so in the context of the school not being stable, we do not dare let our child go to school. We are quite insecure," said Mr. Tran.
Wishing that the students in the class would remain the same and only have a different teacher, Mr. Chuong (* parent's name has been changed) expressed: "We hope the school will soon arrange a stable class because the time for the children's tests and exams is coming up. The disruption will more or less affect the children's psychology."
Parents want the school to announce a clear plan soon. "If the school arranges a guest teacher, how long will he/she teach? When will there be an official teacher? How long will the suspension of teacher THP last? What is the plan to resolve the incident? We are looking forward to an official answer," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Ngan, Head of the Parents' Representative Committee of class 4/3.
On the morning of September 30, Mr. Le Cong Minh - Principal of Chuong Duong Primary School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) said that the reason why 24 students in the class where the teacher asked their parents for money to buy laptops missed school was because many parents of this class did not know that Ms. Hanh had been temporarily suspended from teaching and being the homeroom teacher since last weekend.
The school has found and has a qualified guest teacher to teach this class. The duration of Ms. H.'s temporary suspension from teaching (15 days) depends on the process of resolving the case.
"The school does not cover up the teacher's wrongdoings in this incident, but only asks parents for time to handle the situation. When there is a decision to suspend Ms. Hanh from teaching, the school will officially notify parents," emphasized Mr. Le Cong Minh.
Previously, on the afternoon of September 28, Vice Chairwoman of District 1 People's Committee Mai Thi Hong Hoa said that the locality had a meeting with Chuong Duong Primary School and the teacher who was reported by parents to have solicited money to buy computers (laptops). The district leader affirmed that this was only an isolated incident that occurred in the area.
"The People's Committee of District 1 has directed units to strictly handle the above incident. The school boards in the district have also reviewed everything and must not let similar cases happen again," the Vice Chairman of District 1 emphasized.
According to Ms. Mai Thi Hong Hoa, the initial handling of the incident was to temporarily suspend teacher H. (the person complained about by parents) from teaching. The school also assigned another teacher with prestige to take on the role of homeroom teacher of the above class.
The entire amount of money the teacher received from parents to buy the laptop must also be returned. The district leaders also requested the District 1 Education Department to continue to monitor and closely grasp the incident.
