Halong Canfoco apologizes to customers following the African swine fever outbreak, affirms product safety, temporarily closes its Hai Phong factory for 14 days, and cooperates with authorities to clarify the suspected outbreak.
The African swine fever outbreak at Halong Canfoco Joint Stock Company is attracting significant public attention. On the morning of January 12th, the company posted an update on its official Facebook account, expressing gratitude to the community and customers for their responsible responses and questions.
Halong Canfoco emphasized that its staff and workers have long-standing ties to the local area, directly use the company's products, and always strictly adhere to food safety control procedures. The company affirmed that it will fully cooperate with relevant authorities to clarify suspicions related to the source of raw materials as well as the African swine fever outbreak, awaiting official conclusions to ensure transparency for consumers.
In its announcement, Halong Canfoco specifically emphasized health safety: "We affirm, based on scientific and technical evidence, that agents such as African swine fever virus and Salmonella bacteria are completely eliminated during the heat treatment process according to established technological standards. The processed products fully meet food safety and hygiene requirements and do not affect consumer health."
The company also apologized to customers for damaging their trust and committed to seriously evaluating the situation, taking responsibility, and implementing corrective measures. However, just about 15 minutes after being posted, the article suddenly disappeared from Halong Canfoco's official Facebook page without any explanation from the company.
Earlier, on the afternoon of January 11th, Halong Canfoco announced it would temporarily suspend operations at its Hai Phong factory for 14 days starting from January 12th. The company stated that the production suspension period may be adjusted depending on actual developments and that it will report to the Board of Directors for consideration of extending or shortening the suspension period.
According to Dan Tri newspaper, the Board of Directors has also decided to appoint Mr. Cao Nhat Huy – Deputy Director of Production – to temporarily manage the Ha Long Canned Food Factory in Hai Phong. Mr. Huy is responsible for coordinating with the human resources department to arrange labor during the temporary suspension of production, and for promptly reporting the personnel and labor situation to the Board of Directors.
The decision to change the leadership structure comes after authorities arrested Mr. Truong Sy Toan – General Director of Halong Canfoco – along with three other employees on January 10th for allegedly collecting and processing diseased pork. This arrest has put significant pressure on the company and has led the public to closely follow the subsequent handling of the case.
With its official announcement and temporary suspension of production, Halong Canfoco is striving to rebuild customer and community trust while demonstrating its commitment to food safety standards. However, the deletion of the announcement just minutes after posting has led many consumers to question the transparency of the company's information handling.
Currently, Halong Canfoco has not released any further information regarding the incident or its next steps. The community and customers are still awaiting the official conclusion from the authorities, while observing the company's actions in rectifying the situation and ensuring food safety.
