Following the online uproar caused by comments from coach Huynh Trung Hieu, Saigon Phantom has spoken out to defend its players and demanded that the former coach correct the negative information.
On the night of January 11th, the Vietnamese eSports community was unexpectedly stirred up when Huynh Trung Hieu (Titan) - former coach of the Saigon Phantom (SGP) Mobile Legends team - posted a message publicly sharing his sexual orientation. However, what caused the post to quickly spread and spark intense controversy was Titan's mention of Tan Khoa, a player who was part of the club he previously coached.
Within a short time, the article was widely shared on social media, attracting a range of conflicting opinions. Some expressed surprise, while many others argued that mentioning the private life and name of a young player in such an ambiguous and speculative way was inappropriate and could easily damage the image and morale of the individual involved.
Amidst the growing public outcry, on the morning of January 12th, Saigon Phantom officially responded to the incident. In a statement sent to fans and the media, the team confirmed that they were aware of the information regarding the former Titan coach's post, and affirmed that the shared content was based on personal speculation, emotion, and lacked any factual basis.
"Saigon Phantom has received information regarding the incident where the team's former coach posted a public article containing content that directly affected the team and its players. Regarding the shared content, it is a post based on personal speculation and emotion," SGP stated.
The team emphasized that this information has misled public opinion, negatively impacting the community and fans, and seriously infringing upon the honor, dignity, privacy, and morale of the players.
Notably, Saigon Phantom also completely denied the information suggesting that player Tan Khoa had ever responded to or reciprocated any romantic feelings from the former Titan coach. The club affirmed that during the entire time Titan worked with the team, there was no instance of any abusive behavior towards the player.
According to information from SGP management, the team's Support player has been repeatedly harassed, seriously affecting his mental state and morale. Upon receiving the complaints, the team's leadership verified and assessed the situation and implemented necessary measures. This is also believed to be one of the main reasons why Titan left Saigon Phantom in September 2025.
Beyond simply issuing a statement to clarify the situation, SGP stated that the management is currently in direct contact with the former Titan coach, requesting the removal of all posts, content, and statements related to the team and its players. The team also issued a strong warning about the possibility of legal action if the situation continues to escalate negatively.
"Any uncooperative behavior or continued violations will be documented, evidence will be collected, and legal action will be taken in accordance with Vietnamese law to best protect the rights, image, and morale of our players," Saigon Phantom affirmed in a statement.
