HCMC: A young man ended his life due to debt at the university village's stone lake, causing sadness with his farewell

On October 29, Di An City Police, Binh Duong Province coordinated with relevant units to investigate the case of a young man who chose to end his life in the stone lake of Ho Chi Minh City National University Village.

The victim's name is NCD (25 years old, from Dong Nai).

Accordingly, at around 9:00 a.m., people discovered this young man floating in a rock pool in Ho Chi Minh City National University village, Dong Hoa ward, Di An city, Binh Duong province.

The rescue team came to rescue the young man ashore and handed him over to Di An City police to conduct an autopsy and investigate the cause.

Previously, on July 28, a man was fishing in the rock lake of Ho Chi Minh City National University when he saw on the opposite bank a person jumping into the lake and then missing. When he got closer, he discovered that the victim had left behind a sandals and phone on shore. This person is believed to be the young man in question.

Rescue teams were present and searched for many hours but to no avail.

The family said the victim had debts from outside parties, the family had paid the debt many times on his behalf. On October 27, this young man texted his relatives to apologize. At noon on October 28, the above incident occurred. .

It is known that the rock lake in University Village is known as a haunted place when tragic accidents continuously occur.

The area around the university village rock lake is a familiar gathering and dating place for students and people living nearby because of the airy and poetic scenery. According to the representative of Ho Chi Minh City National University Urban Area Management and Development Center, there are 5 large rock lakes in this area. Victims of tragic drownings are mainly students and young workers. And the most recent incident occurred in July 2022, when people were walking and discovered a young man floating on the water in a rock lake.

Having heard about many tragic incidents at the university village's rock lake, many students from the nearby Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Law did not dare to go near this area. "When I first came to the city to study, I heard stories and warnings from my seniors, so even though the scenery was beautiful, I still didn't dare go near the lake. On weekends, my friends and I often go to the paths along the rock lake to sit and enjoy the breeze. , ate and drank but did not go close to the shore because they were afraid and haunted by the incidents they heard about," a student shared.‏

Parking the car and sitting on a cool stone bench on Nguyen Du street (the section overlooking the rock lake), Mr. HVP (26 years old), living on Nguyen An Ninh street, Di An city (Binh Duong province), shared: "I I've been working here for 5 years now. Every few years, every few months, I read the news in the newspaper that someone died at the rock lake. These incidents happen so often that I'm no longer surprised when someone dies. But in the past 2 years, I've seen those tragic events become much less frequent. Sometimes when I have time, I come here to sit in the cool air, rather than going near the lake."

In the past few years, tragic incidents at rock lake have decreased significantly. That is thanks to the strict management and control efforts of the authorities.

To prevent tragic incidents as much as possible, in recent years the center has taken many measures to strictly control this area. "Leaders of Ho Chi Minh City National University have built solid fences around, increased warning signs near the rock lake area. At the same time, coordinated with local agencies and authorities to patrol and remind Remind students and residents not to go near the lake shore to play, bathe, fish or do other dangerous activities," the leader said.

However, there are still some people who ignore the danger and ignore warning signs to deliberately cross the fence and go close to the lake shore to fish and take photos. Regarding these cases, the leader said they will coordinate with the security force of the National University to patrol regularly. If caught, they will be reminded and invited to leave the dangerous area. In case of non-cooperation, the ward will be invited to impose administrative sanctions according to regulations.‏
