After the unexpected success of "Squid Game 2", in an interview, TOP revealed the reason for accepting the role of Thanos, and recounted the time he left BIGBANG and went into hiding.

More than 6 years since his discharge from the army in 2019, TOP has just returned in an interview with the media. This is also the first time the male singer has publicly talked about the noise of the past 11 years, including the controversy surrounding the role of Thanos in "Squid Game 2".

In the film, TOP plays Thanos - a rapper who is out of date due to debt and drug addiction. After the film was officially released, he faced a lot of criticism from his bad acting to his past of using drug.s.

In an interview with The Korea Times, TOP admitted that accepting the invitation to play Thanos was a difficult decision. "This character is like a reflection of my past, things that I always wanted to keep hidden. This fear made me hesitate, but I believe in destiny, it's time for me to do this" - the former BIGBANG member shared.

TOP further revealed that director Hwang Dong Hyuk spoke up and had faith in him when he took on this role: "For nearly 10 years, I felt like no one paid attention to me, but one day director Hwang Dong Hyuk contacted me. The director's trust and faith gave me the courage to take on this challenge."

Officially accepting the role of Thanos, the male singer spent a lot of time focusing on researching people involved in illegal drug.s to portray him in the most realistic way. "For the scenes where Thanos hasn't used drug.s, I had to act completely differently from the scenes where he uses drug.s," he said.

In 2020, TOP announced that he would not return to the entertainment industry. Therefore, many viewers were outraged when they saw the male singer in the cast of "Squid Game 2". Regarding this, he admitted that his 30s were a "huge shame" and that over the years, he had lived almost isolated from society.

When I looked at those photos, I felt like I was looking at a photo of a broken family. However, the way I acted at that time was due to lack of thinking," he confided.
