Netizens boycott Squid Game 2 for "touching" Vietnamese history, Department of Cinema makes strong statement

Just aired on the afternoon of December 26, "Squid Game 2" met with disaster when some viewers discovered that it contained sensitive details related to Vietnamese history. Many even declared that they would stop watching the show, no matter how good it was.

Specifically in episode 5, the character Kang Dae-ho (played by Kang Ha Neul) when telling the story of his family said "My father fought in Vietnam", the main character Gi-hun ( Lee Jung Jae) listened and commented "Your father is a great person" while the other characters also expressed admiration.

In addition, Kang Dae-ho's name also implies "Big Tiger" as explained by the character in the film. These details immediately caused outrage among viewers in Vietnam. The reason is that during the period from 1964-1973, hundreds of thousands of South Korean soldiers, as allies of a superpower, were sent to the S-shaped strip of land to fight.

There are posts on social networks that point out the connection between the name "Dai Ho" of player 388 (the character who said the above line) and the Go Dai incident in Tay Son district, Binh Dinh in 1966. "It's weird to watch"; "Even if it's good, stop watching"; "Stop watching immediately"... are comments from people.

On the afternoon of December 27, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online, Mr. Do Quoc Viet - Deputy Director of the Department of Cinema said that the department had grasped public opinion regarding sensitive details in the movie "Squid Game" part 2 and was checking the information.

"According to the Cinema Law, the Cinema Department will conduct post-audits of films broadcast on the Internet. After careful assessment, the department will provide official information to the press," said Mr. Viet. The deputy director of the Cinema Department revealed that at the time Tuoi Tre Online contacted them, the department was also in a meeting on this issue from noon today until now (afternoon of December 27) and had not finished. If "Squid Game 2" violates the law, it will likely be removed from the Vietnamese film library, similar to "Little Women". While the Cinema Department has yet to make a final decision and the truth is still unknown, some viewers are taking advantage of the time to watch all 7 episodes of the work.

Along with praise for its deeper exploration of human nature and the impressive performance of the male lead Lee Jung Jae (as Seong Gi Hun), there were also quite a few negative reviews of the film. According to Daum, the second part of "Squid Game" is slow-paced, has few games, and lacks suspense.
