Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Hwang Dong-hyuk said he obviously felt pressured by the success of the first part. The director revealed that he initially had no idea for the second part, but it finally came. He "revealed" that the last two parts will revolve around the character Go-hun and his journey to confront the game's operating system.

Regarding the process of coming up with the ending, the creator said: "When I thought about the idea for the ending of season 3, I thought this was a very natural ending. I believed that with that story, I could tell everything I wanted to tell through Squid Game and there would be no more parts."

Returning to the screen in season 3 will be familiar faces from previous seasons, including: Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung, Wi Ha Joon and Gong Yoo.
