In the past, stories revolving around mysterious and scary creatures have always stimulated people's attention and imagination. From animals believed to bring disaster to unsolved mysteries...
1. Thuong Luong eats people in Tuyen Quang
In 2013, information about a stream appeared in Dau village, Tuyen Quang caused a stir in public opinion. According to the villagers, the creature is said to specialize in eating humans, bringing disaster, and living in an abandoned temple because of punishment from the gods. Even the fact that people caught a 17kg thuong luong added to the thrill of the story.
However, scientists were quick to clarify the facts. This animal considered a "monster" is actually just a python in a hammock. After catching it, the farmer sold it for 2.8 million VND. Thus, the story of the cannon-eating stream is actually an embroidery from a real event but does not contain any mystical elements.
So what is Thuong Luong? What does it look like? Thuong luong, or Giao Long, is a water monster in folk imagination that is somewhat similar to a dragon but not exactly a dragon. It is usually very large, has horns like a dragon, a snake-like body, and terrifying strength, even to the point of supernaturalism.
They live in large bodies of water and can drown anyone or a boat. Many researchers believe that thuong luong is an imaginary creature that is "hybridized" and mythologized from the characteristics of real creatures such as crocodiles, snakes, etc., giving them the irresistible power of water monsters.
In many fairy tales, Thuong Luong is also considered the embodiment of the king of Shui Qi, Ha Ba or their descendants, with divine powers. It often represents a natural force that can harm people, but sometimes it also helps people.
2. Giant spider in Ha Tinh
Contrary to cases that are just rumors, the story of the giant spider in Ha Tinh is completely real. In 2012, the people of Ky Anh discovered a spider with an incredible size, 6cm long, 3cm wide and weighing 6g. It has dark gray plumage, pointed hair, a jet black belly and has 10 legs, each leg has 5 stings, and especially owns two large front teeth.
According to Dr. Pham Dinh Sac, Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, this is a spider in the Theraphosidae family (hairy spider) with a body size of 1.3-9.0 cm long, a dangerous but at the same time useful venom in medicine. This type of spider is very aggressive and ready to bite when bitten.
3. Giant centipede in Da Nang
Similar to spirit spiders, giant centipedes are also real. A family in Da Nang caught a huge fish with a length of 32cm, possessing many pairs of large legs and two beards. This centipede is said to be longer than the world's largest centipede in the UK (27cm).
Mr. Nguyen Duc Anh, Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, confirmed that the captured centipede is a large centipede, belonging to the Scolopendra genus, belonging to the family Scolopendridae, order Scolopendromorpha. There are about 5-6 species of large centipedes of this breed in Vietnam.
Centipedes belong to the group of arthropods, subdivided into multi-legged branches. They usually live in humid places and have fangs on their heads, which are animals that contain strong venom. People who are bitten by centipedes often show pain, seizures, nausea, and even coma.
4. Cat Ba Monster
In Cat Ba, a snake-like creature that often emerges in the middle of the sea, has become a controversial issue among the fishing community. Some people say they once found a strange island that appeared and then disappeared when approaching.
And it was also because of the "unorthodox information" that the monster suddenly turned into... fierce. That is, with just one wagging of its tail, a monster can sink an entire large ship. Their eyes were as big and bright as the headlights of a car, their teeth were big, strong, and sharp like tyrannosaurs...
Everyone described it extremely meticulously and clearly, accompanied by a bewildered and frightened expression, as if they had only recently seen that formidable starfish. However, so far, there are no images or authentic evidence of the existence of this "monster". The mystery of the "Cat Ba monster" is still unanswered.
5. Ghost carp in West Lake
One day, Hanoi people discovered a carp without scales, on its strangely colorful variegated back at West Lake. The fish's terrifying appearance has led to rumors about "ghost carp", claiming that anyone who eats it will have bad luck.
According to experts, this phenomenon is explained by creating mutations in the genetic structure of the Hungarian carp breed in combination with Vietnamese carp. This is a natural biological phenomenon, not as mystical as rumored.
6. West Lake Water Monster
A viral video on the Internet once recorded the image of a strange creature emerging in the area of Tran Quoc Pagoda. The creature is described as having a human head, python body, white eyes and silver hair, and is even believed to have both males and females. This event created public concern about the existence of a mysterious creature in West Lake.
However, experts stepped in and determined that the video was just a product built with technology. There is no evidence of the existence of "water monsters" in West Lake. Thus, the story is just a joke that is not real.
