People's Artist Thanh Ngoan's real name is Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoan, born October 20, 1966 in Thai Thuy district, Thai Binh province.

As the third child in a family of five children (three girls, two boys), Thanh Ngoan and her two older sisters pursue a professional artistic path (Thanh Ngoan's older sister is a Cai Luong actress).

Thanh Ngoan's family lives in the cradle of Cheo, with many siblings, aunts and uncles involved in artistic work. That's why she knew how to sing Cheo since she was very young.

"Vietnamese rowing has existed for a long time, going through many stages. I remember the first stage around 1951, in the Viet Bac war zone. After 1986 was the opening period, people were worried about food, clothing, and money, so they did not let attention to the stage.

That was a time of unsteady rowing and not being able to perform much. We also tried to attract the audience, but were not very successful.

After 2000, Cheo returned but still could not support his own career. Theaters are still being invested in but have not been able to attract audiences to buy tickets. We artists still live on state salaries.

However, in recent years, rowing has flourished a lot and received a lot of attention. The state has affirmed that Cheo is a national art, spreading along cultural lines. Cheo is coming back to life with new directions."

People's Artist Thanh Ngoan also shared frankly about the requirements for a career in the ancient art of Cheo:

"Cheo, like any other art, has strict requirements. With Cheo, we require sound and color, but sound comes before color. No matter how beautiful it is, there is no voice. Can't follow the row either.

I have the advantage of singing and my appearance is not that bad so I was accepted into Cheo singing. Only then did I realize that Cheo also requires temperament, internal strength, charisma, dancing, and acting. In Cheo art, exaggeration and convention are very large."

After going through a boat trip and having a son, she found a peaceful haven with her current husband. Thanh Ngoan shared that her husband understands and sympathizes with his wife's work. Especially when the female artist was still the leader of the Vietnam Cheo Theater, busy with management and performance every day, he was still happy and created favorable conditions for his wife.

"My husband is a wonderful person, always understanding and facilitating my work. Even though he doesn't know much about art, he always encourages me.
