Thanh Lan: Actors with cancer like diva Hong Nhung, how are you living now?

Thanh Lan studied pharmacy in a family-oriented way, then turned to pursue art, struggling to find a foothold in the profession for many years. She studied at the Faculty of Actors - Ho Chi Minh City University of Theater and Cinema.

Sweet and bitter art path

According to the actress, after graduating from grade 12, she studied pharmacy at Logistics College 2. However, because of her passion for theater, she decided to change direction and enter the Theater School to pursue art. When she was in her second year of school, her family faced financial difficulties, which greatly affected her study and living process. From going to school by motorbike, she switched to cycling. The tight economy makes the pursuit of the profession face many obstacles.

She recounted that her mother once advised her to stop studying acting to find another more stable direction, but Thanh Lan was still determined and accepted difficulties to follow the profession. At that time, Thanh Lan was studying and working part-time to cover her expenses. The jobs she chooses are all in the field of art such as playing the role of the masses, writing scripts, and working as a newspaper collaborator.

In particular, referring to memories related to sweet potatoes, Thanh Lan said, during a mass performance, because her family had an incident, she only had 5,000 VND left in her pocket, not enough to buy rice. She confided: "Because there are many mass actors, the troupe cannot pack rice. 5,000 VND was not enough to buy rice, so on the way back I bought potatoes from a street vendor for lunch."

However, Thanh Lan said that she did not feel sad because when she was young, she believed in optimism: "No matter how sad I am, I believe that the ending must be good. I affirm myself that everything will be fine, I will definitely overcome everything." She also said that the little mone.y she earns from mass roles is saved to bring back to her mother.

Facing Breast Cancer

Thanh Lan's life entered the most difficult period when she was diagnosed with right breast cancer.

When she received the bad news, Thanh Lan was completely devastated. She said she has undergone all kinds of treatments from surgery, chemotherapy to radiation therapy. With no knowledge of the disease, Qing Lan initially thought that everything was over, not even believing in the doctor's diagnosis.

Thanh Lan confided about her feelings at that time: "I think there have been events in my life, I have to try to make sure that God can't steal it anymore."

She confided: "The lesson and the 'get' that this disease brings me is that I don't set goals for myself anymore. I still try every day, and whatever the result is, I will happily accept it." She burst into tears and talked about the times when she faced difficulties alone, but the luckiest thing was: "When you are sick, you always have friends who actively accompany you, you don't need to ask anyone. Even people I don't know are interested and supportive, so I can overcome everything. Now, I can sit back and look at everything without being pessimistic, not letting the sad things in the past make me worse."

Finding Strength in Love

It was in the darkest period that Thanh Lan realized that she was lucky to always have friends by her side. She said that they took the initiative to text to ask and ask to take Thanh Lan for a follow-up examination.

Thanh Lan always remembers her affection for a technology car driver when he learned that she came to the Oncology Hospital, he volunteered to drive her for free. Although she initially refused because she didn't want him to lose her income, Thanh Lan realized an important thing: sometimes we need to know how to receive love from others, even strangers.

During treatment, the meetings at the hospital helped Thanh Lan see her situation differently. She said that she met 2 women who had the same disease but had completely opposite perspectives.

The first woman cried when she learned that Thanh Lan was young and had the disease. Just a few minutes later, another woman of the same ag.e said that Thanh Lan was "happy" because she did not have a family or children. This person confided: "My chil.d is only 2 years old, now I am sick and I don't know what to do."

From these 2 meetings, Thanh Lan learned a profound lesson on how to look at the problem. She understands that every thing that comes to her, how we perceive it — pessimistic or positive — is entirely up to her.

The image of an elderly woman who had suffered from the same disease as Thanh Lan left a deep impression in her heart. This woman encouraged, guided and instilled in Thanh Lan optimism.

They made an appointment to have coffee together, but before that happened, the woman discovered that the disease had metastasized. What touched Thanh Lan was that even though she was in a critical condition, the woman still kept an optimistic spirit and called her and said: "You invite me to coffee, hurry up and leave me lest I can't catch up."

The phrase hides sadness but also shows a strong will to live that has made Thanh Lan awaken about her way of life.

Changing the concept of life after illness

Suffering from a serious illness, Thanh Lan changed her way of looking at life. She no longer sets too high goals for herself but chooses to live each day to the fullest and happily accept the results no matter what.

Thanh Lan also learned how to receive love from everyone around her. She realized that being loved is extremely important to everyone. Not only do we love ourselves, we also need emotional exchanges between people to have a strong belief to continue living.

During the healing process, Thanh Lan received help from many people. In particular, actor and model Pham Duc Long sent messages to encourage her from the early days of the disease, but Thanh Lan did not expect him to be the one to leave first.
