Poet Da Thao Phuong caused a stir when she accused of being raped at Van Nghe Newspaper more than 23 years ago

"The person who raped me is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers' Association" - Ms. Da Thao Phuong directly denounced Mr. LNA, currently Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Van Nghe Newspaper, member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers Association.

Poet Da Thao Phuong (real name Phan Thi Thanh Thuy, SN 1974) has worked at Van Nghe Newspaper since September 1996 as a reporter, then an editor. Da Thao Phuong confirmed that she had sent an Open Letter denouncing Mr. LNA's rape to the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers' Association, to poet Nguyen Quang Thieu - President of the Vietnam Writers' Association.

"In the short term, I sent an email to the Executive Board of the Vietnam Writers' Association. Right after that, Mr. Nguyen Quang Thieu also called me to share personally," - Ms. Phuong said.

In the denunciation sent to the Vietnam Writers' Association, during her time working at Van Nghe Newspaper, Ms. Da Thao Phuong said that she had been "many times manipulated, controlled, abused, forced" since 1999. In particular, the incident that happened at noon on April 14, 2000 was witnessed by many people.

"At noon on April 14, 2000, when I was alone in the editing room of Youth Arts, LNA broke in with the intention of raping me. I resisted in panic and called for help. Many colleagues ran over, witnessed LNA lying on top of me, strangling me. Thanks to the intervention of colleagues, the rape that day was not successful, "- Ms. Phuong said.

The conversation had to be interrupted several times because Phuong showed signs of low blood pressure. This woman also repeatedly affirmed that her accusations were true and was ready to take responsibility before the law for the aforementioned contents.

Ms. Da Thao Phuong provided a report (photo) on the incident that occurred on April 14, 2000, which is believed to have been made by eyewitnesses, and sent to the leaders of Van Nghe Newspaper. The writer of the report was Mr. Nguyen Le Tam, then a presentation artist of Van Nghe Newspaper.

Talking to Dan Viet, Mr. Nguyen Le Tam confirmed that he was the one who wrote the above report, then 3 more people signed the confirmation below. Mr. Tam also confirmed again that the incident happened on 14/4/2000 exactly as the report he wrote.

According to the content of the report, the witnesses to the incident included poet Be Kien Quoc, painter Thanh Chuong, poet Nguyen Viet Chien, reporter Phong Diep, reporter Nhat Ha. At that time, according to Mr. Nguyen Le Tam, it was a "very unusual incident at an agency of the Vietnam Writers' Association, a prestigious newspaper in the country". After that, this incident was reviewed by the leaders of Van Nghe Newspaper and said that it was a "flash" between the two.

Regarding the incident, on the night of April 6, PV Dan Viet tried to contact Mr. LNA. By this morning (April 7), Mr. LNA answered the PV by phone. When asked about Ms. Da Thao Phuong's accusations causing a stir in public opinion, Mr. A said that at this time he did not have any opinion, if Ms. Phuong has an opinion, the authorities are responsible. Right now, no one listens to right or wrong.

Talking more with PV, Ms. Da Thao Phuong said that the content she sent to the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers' Association was the truth. "If Mr. LNA sues me for slander, I will be very happy. Because I will be presented, confronted with this story and given an opportunity to bring the matter to law" - poet Da Thao Phuong let me know.

"Doing this, I have to relive all the terrible memories of the past once more. Doing this, I put my whole family in the face of a public outcry that is sure to hurt them. This is not a personal revenge, much less to ease feelings of pain or resentment.

I had to do this, because it was the only way I could really live on. My pain is the pain of being trampled on by the core values that I believe in.

For a long time, communication was a responsibility that I had to shoulder like a torture. The thought of reappearing in the literary world terrified me. What happened to me is the truth, and over the past twenty years, that truth has not once been acknowledged publicly and fairly."
