Nguyen Duong: director of Sun Gate, Tycoon - Golden Triangle, both comedy and film

Director Nguyen Duong's full name is Duong Thanh Hai (or Danny Nguyen); He was born on April 24, 1957 - the eldest son of 5 brothers. He is known as a talented director and actor.

His younger brother is Duong Thanh Son (Van Son) and 3 younger sisters are Duong Thanh Ha, Duong Thanh Tuyen (Kristine Truong) and Duong Thanh Tu (Julie Nguyen) respectively.

Nguyen Duong's family has a tradition of artistic activism – some are involved in art such as his uncle Nguyen Chanh Tin and his younger siblings Johnny Tri Nguyen and Charlie Nguyen. Nguyen Duong's wife Thu Tuyet and daughter Nikki Nhat Vi have also acted in films in Vietnam.

In 1973, Nguyen Duong took an acting class at the Saigon National School of Music and Drama, after which he began to participate in several plays on television. With the liberation of the South, he shifted his activities to Chien Thang Mechanical Factory (now in District 5) and won an award for his arts.

Following his career, he worked for the Rose troupe with his artist wife Thu Tuyet for 10 years. Nguyen Duong initially specialized in drama roles, but after only one reluctant time in comedy roles, he became one of the favorite faces of comedians in the 1990s in Ho Chi Minh City.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the family income was unstable, and Nguyen Duong and his wife taught themselves film dubbing, which they later followed until they worked overseas.

It is known that director Nguyen Duong has participated in the program "In the House Outside the Street" of Ho Chi Minh City Television from the early days until 1997. He had success with the play Soul Bridge in the 1980s, becoming the principal double and later continued his success with the play Face from 1986.

In the early 1990s, Nguyen Duong acted in a number of films – the villain Minh Den in director Do Phu Hai's drama Black Water Hamlet made a strong impression on audiences – helping him get rid of the image of his previous leading roles.

In 1997, when his career was flourishing, Nguyen Duong unexpectedly came to the US to settle down as a family reunion. Upon coming to the US, Nguyen Duong became a comedian of Van Son Center along with dubbing films.

Continuing to pursue his passion, he enrolled in directing and visual effects classes, then he and his wife opened their own recording center - named Dai Duong. For a while, he returned to Vietnam to cooperate with Saigon Vafaco and Ben Thanh Band Center - making a 4-episode film from the script Long River of Ha Trieu, Phoenix Flower and Dream Man video film.

In 2008, Nguyen Duong was planning to return to Vietnam for half a year to participate in the production of Lasta's Apple Quan program, at which time general director Tran Minh Tien invited him to cooperate in making a long-running film called Deserted Alley. This was followed by a succession of long-running film projects such as Gate of the Sun, 30 days of fatherhood that made him decide to stay in Vietnam.

In his first 8 years back in Vietnam, Nguyen Duong has produced more than 20 full-length films and dozens of "TV movies". In which the film Blood flows to the heart starred his whole family.

Nguyen Duong is married to artist Thu Tuyet – she is the daughter of drummer Tam Sam – the two were once known for co-starring in the play Explosion at 0 o'clock.

Director Nguyen Duong and his wife have 1 child, Duong Kim Ngan - stage name Nikki Duong Nhat Vi - she followed her family to the US from the age of 7, when her parents returned to Vietnam, she still studied in the US. After returning home, Nhat Vi starred in a number of dramas, including those directed by Nguyen Duong.

Many of Nguyen Duong's films have "stormed" public opinion and then been shown in many local TV channels for many years. These include: Sun Gate, Tycoon, Shallow Lotus Season, Deserted Alley, Thirty Days of Fatherhood, May Grass Dream, High Class Aspirations, My Wife Is No. 1...

Director Nguyen Duong's tycoon (52 episodes) is notable for its compelling plot. In it, Nguyen Duong plays the evil underworld boss, and full of tricks.

" When I was offered the role of Boss, I was only tasked with directing. It's understandable because I haven't acted in films for a long time. When choosing an actor for the role of the tycoon, I also had several options, but when I made the offer, the actor declined because "there are a few advertising contracts, so if I take this evil role, I am afraid of losing the advertising contract". Mysteriously, I told the producer "let me be". It's only a temporary solution so I don't think people still love me as an actor like that!" - Director Nguyen Duong confided.

Previously, Nguyen Duong was successful as a director and most impressively the film " The Secret of the Golden Triangle" was loved by TV viewers. Actor Binh Minh once commented that: " Nguyen Duong on the set is a different person from ordinary life. Fastidious, hot-tempered and extremely strict! But it is his rigor that connects actors, who are very busy with many other parallel film projects at the same time. Although at times, I found it difficult to reconcile with his excessive strictness, but when I watched the film again, I have to thank him that thanks to him, my role was better."

Nguyen Duong added that he is not a rigid or extreme person. He takes on film projects for many personal reasons, but most of all, in every film, he wants to be a profession. If he wasn't allowed to play the tycoon, he was willing to play the masses if it needed to.
