Before that, from the night to the morning of January 11, there was a wave of cold air from the north to strengthen down to Lao Cai. The weather was rainy, scattered light rain, the temperature in all areas dropped lower than the previous day.

At 7:11 a.m., meteorological stations in the monitoring area measured the lowest temperature in some places as follows: Lao Cai city down to 8.8 degrees Celsius; Rang Street (Bao Yen) 8.9 degrees Celsius; Sapa - 0.8 degrees Celsius.

Ms. Dao Thi Thanh Nga, Head of Sa Pa Meteorological Station, said that the temperature dropped below 0 degrees Celsius, the area from Tram Ton to the top of Fansipan appeared snowy. Snow fell with light intensity with light rain, starting at 0:00 on January 11 and lasting about 30 minutes and then ending.

According to local people, the snow began to fall heavily at 1-2 am and lasted until this morning. The temperature here is approximately 0 degrees Celsius.

In the highland commune of Y Ty (Bat Xat district), heavy rain and snow appeared in the field. Snow and snow covered the road, the grass, clinging to the branches, creating a scene like the winter sky in Europe.

This is the first snowfall recorded in these two localities in the winter of 2021.

However, it is also due to ice and snow that many roads in Sa Pa are slippery, for drivers who do not have much driving experience in this weather condition, it will be very easy to have an accident.

The captain of the Sapa town traffic police team said that on the morning of January 11, the weather was severe, with frost and snow appearing, making the road to O Quy Ho pass slippery, making it difficult for drivers.

Some vehicles such as trucks, pickup trucks, ... had problems, slippery, and hit cliffs. Although there was no loss of life, this collision was difficult to overcome due to severe weather conditions, difficult terrain and the repair service was not convenient.

"We are currently supporting drivers who have problems and have banned the road 5km from the center of Sapa town to O Quy Ho pass to ensure the safety of people," said the captain of the traffic police team.
