After the resounding success of the MV Mantra, Jennie continued to attract attention when appearing in an interview, she responded frankly to netizens' curiosity. In it, Jennie did not hesitate to mention BlackPink, affirming one thing with certainty.
On October 15 (Korean time), WIRED released an interview with Blackpink's Jennie on their YouTube channel. The interview was conducted in a Q&A format, in which Jennie answered questions based on popular Google search terms about her.
When asked when she would return to Blackpink, Jennie said: "I've always been a member of Blackpink. We released our debut single in August 2016."
Jennie shared about her time in New Zealand: "I moved to New Zealand when I was 9 and stayed there until I was 14. I used to have a very strong accent but now I've completely lost it. I feel sad that people don't know I lived in New Zealand."
Jennie added, "I love Marmite. When Rosé and I were in New Zealand, we always had fun when people gave us Vegemite or Marmite." Regarding the release of her first solo song SOLO, Jennie said, "It's been about 5-6 years, but let's count it as 5 years.
It feels like it's been a long time. While preparing for Mantra, I looked back at videos and pictures from when I was working in SOLO, and I looked so young and cute." Jennie also talked about the difference between working as a solo artist and working in a group:
"Working as a solo artist is very different. You're alone in the studio and with the group, we'll discuss everything and move forward if everyone agrees. But now, I have to make all the decisions myself, that's the biggest difference."
When asked about her personality, Jennie described herself as "very shy" and "the quietest" when she's with her friends. She added: "But the person you see on stage is very different from who I am in real life. I hope we can understand each other better."
Jennie's current favorite Blackpink song is Lovesick Girls, she explained: "My favorite song changes constantly, but right now it's Lovesick Girls because it shows the cute and feminine side of Blackpink, and it has a uniqueness that we rarely show on stage."
She also hinted that her future albums will include self-composed songs. Jennie made her solo comeback on October 11, KST, with the release of her single "Mantra." Jennie's new single is dominating iTunes charts around the world.
Earlier, on the morning of October 12, Korean media reported that Jennie's song Mantra officially topped the US iTunes chart just a few hours after its release. This achievement helped the female idol surpass Lisa, becoming the first Asian female artist to reach the No. 1 position on iTunes in this country in 2024. Not only in the US, the song also caused a global fever when it took the top 1 spot on the iTunes charts of 47 countries, including Brazil, Singapore, Philippines, Mexico,...
In the Chinese market, Mantra reached No. 1 on all three largest platforms including QQ Music, NetEase Music and KuGou. This is considered an impressive feat for a Korean artist in the billion-people market, which is known as the most competitive in the world.
Explaining the reason Jennie's new song achieved great results in major music markets, fans said the song has a catchy melody, is creative and full of energy.
The song clearly shows Jennie's unique musical style. No longer revolving around love, Mantra conquers global audiences with its message of loving yourself, encouraging women to confidently shine.
