In a similar case, according to a source from Health and Life newspaper, on October 2, the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department of Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital Dong Hoi (Quang Binh) admitted a young man to the hospital with severe abdominal pain and nausea after eating toad eggs for about 30 minutes. That patient is D.T.D., 24 years old, residing in Mai Thuy commune, Le Thuy district (Quang Binh).
Through medical history, doctors said that the patient went to abduction to make meat and ate eggs, After eating the toad eggs for about 30 minutes, the young man felt abdominal pain, nausea, then appeared arrhythmias and circulatory arrest. The patient was admitted to the hospital by family members in a state of alertness, general fatigue, headache. Despite being treated by dedicated medics, the young man did not survive.
Doctors diagnosed, the patient was poisoned by Bufodienolid, Bufotoxin and some other substances as a result of eating toad eggs. Doctors conduct gastric lavage, take activated carbon, atropine. Dr. Le Hong Nhan - Deputy Head of the Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poison said: This is a case of severe patients because symptoms of poisoning appear soon after eating. Toad venom is very rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract leading to neurological, cardiovascular damage and hyperkalemia. When ventricular fibrillation occurs, most patients do not survive.
Dr. Nhan recommends that toads can poison its entire life cycle, from eggs, tadpoles, small toads to adult toads. The poisonous gland of the toad is located covering the entire skin and in the parotid glands, internal organs, eggs. Systemic intoxication occurs when eating organs and eggs, children licking the toad, holding the toad when the skin hurts or putting the toad in the mouth or toxins splashed into the eyes...
Toad venom poisoning has a very severe prognosis, the risk of not passing is very high. Therefore, it is best to eat only toad meat that has been firmly processed properly, absolutely do not eat eggs, skin, offal of toads. In the presence of symptoms of poisoning, the patient should be immediately transferred to a medical institution for timely emergency.
