The just-released BABYMONSTER has caused controversy, blatantly copying BLACKPINK seniors?

Expected to succeed the senior, but the return of " BLACKPINK sister" BABYMONSTER could not meet the tastes of the audience. The debut MV was added badly, not ranking on the charts.
On the morning of April 1 (Vietnam time), BABYMONSTER officially released the mini album "Babymons7er" with the MV of the title song " Sheesh", marking the "redebut" with a full lineup of 7 members. Previously, the group had a warm-up with the music video for "Batter Up" last November.
The rookie of YG Entertainment is highly appreciated for his talent and appearance and is expected to rise to the top of the 4th generation of idols as the "seniors" BLACKPINK or 2NE1 did.
However, the music product that the group has just released does not seem to satisfy fans. Even witnessing the consecutive failures of BABYSMONSTER, the audience teased that the group should debut for the 3rd time.
Unlike 2 groups in the same house, BABYMONSTER's music products do not have effective support from the "music wizard" TEDDY. The title track "Sheesh" belongs to the genre of Hip-hop combined with electronic music directly composed and produced by CHOICE37 - a longtime producer of YG Entertainment and collaborators. After its official release to the audience, the song received mixed reviews.
It is not difficult to recognize that "Sheesh" has a "YG" musical color with dense electronic sounds, "money" raps, catchy, powerful drops and gradually exploding at the end.
This style has been in vogue since 2020 and earlier. However, at the present time, many viewers believe that the formula that YG applies is old, no longer suitable for the tastes of the majority of the public.
Besides, many fans admitted that "Sheesh" immediately reminded them of BLACKPINK's music. To be clear, the song is like a messy mashup of works that Black Huong has released including "How You Like That", "Love To Hate Me" and "Shut Down".
"Please stop producing, Yang Hyun Suk," "It's really not the kind of music I like. It feels like BLACKPINK songs"; "It seems like nothing has changed, just the same songs, the same singing style, the same costumes and so does the music video. Maybe younger faces are swapped";
"It feels like another group covers BLACKPINK songs but with a more classic twist"; "Although the song itself seems downplayed compared to BLACKPINK's style, the talent is still commendable" ... South Korean netizens reacted.
The choice of "Sheesh" as the theme song was considered a wrong decision by YG because the product did not help BABYMONSTER assert their own musical identity. Meanwhile, many viewers expressed their love for the b-side called "Like That" that Charlie Puth composed specifically for the group.
With what YG Entertainment is doing, it seems that they are orienting BABYMONSTER to pursue a strong girl-crush style, similar to the "sisters" 2NE1 or BLACKPINK. And this is clearly shown through the MV "Sheesh".
Although the product is still heavily invested, the image is eye-catching, but it is considered to lack creativity, no new and surprising elements. In particular, it is not difficult to see some familiar angles, backgrounds as well as effects that have appeared in YG artists' previous MVs. From there, the audience once again had to ask the question: "What is BABYMONSTER's own color?"
Although the MV "Sheesh" still caused controversy, it possessed respectable views. In less than 24 hours of release, the product conquered the milestones of 10 million and 20 million views on YouTube, respectively. On the contrary, in terms of digital music, the song is receiving bad signals.
Accordingly, "Sheesh" debuted in extremely modest rankings on Korean music charts (#100 BUGS, #150 Genie and not yet in the Top 100 MELON). Earlier, the lead single "Batter Up" also had an underwhelming performance.
Because of this, BABYMONSTER was immediately compared to ILLIT, the rookie girl group under HYBE. The group just debuted on March 25 and quickly went viral with the song "Magnetic".
In less than a week, the song officially entered the Top 5 of domestic charts including MelOn, Genie, Bugs as well as FLO. In fact, if put on the scale with girl groups of the same generation, BABYMONSTER is getting off to a rough start.
