One of the most popular contents in the parade to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification is the performance of the Vietnam Air Force.

In the sky of Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of April 30, modern aircraft such as Yak-130, Su-30MK2, Mi-8 and Mi-17 appeared. As scheduled, the flight squadrons departed from Bien Hoa airport (Dong Nai) and headed straight to the center of Ho Chi Minh City to drop flags, perform acrobatics and drop heat traps.

Among them, the "king cobra" Su-30MK2 flies in squadrons of 3-4 aircraft. The Su-30MK2 squadrons perform acrobatics, fly at low altitudes and especially drop heat traps - an active defense system.

In addition to maintaining formation, the squadron of 4 Su-30MK2s flew in a ladder formation, while the squadron of 3 formed an arrow formation, holding their positions before practicing complex techniques such as acrobatics and separation. After that, the 3 fighters dropped heat traps in the sky.

It is known that Colonel Nguyen The Dung - Political Commissar of Division 371, Air Defense - Air Force Service and Lieutenant Colonel Dang Dinh Kien - Deputy Political Commissar of Air Force Regiment 935, Division 370 are two pilots who received an important mission: leading the Su-30mk2 fighter formation to fly in the ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification.

Sharing about the training process for this mission, Colonel Dung said that the Su-30MK2 "king cobra" group was divided into a formation of 3-4 aircraft that would perform somersaults, twist many times in the air, and perform vertical maneuvers... Talking about the role of leading the group, he affirmed that this was not only an honor and pride but also a great responsibility.

According to air force regulations and training curriculum, the squad leader is the one who is fully responsible for the flight as well as the safety of the members in the formation. From the time the plane rolls onto the runway, takes off until it lands safely, the squad leader must command the formation accurately and closely.

Colonel Nguyen The Dung shared: "My teammates and I are very happy and excited. According to the initial assessment of the leaders at all levels, we have completed the mission well according to the scenario and flight plan. Everything was accurate to the second. When the formation entered the ceremony platform and flew across the Reunification Hall, we were very excited, touched, and felt proud to fly in the peaceful sky.

But soon after, we quickly realized that we had to concentrate, always keeping in mind that we had to fly well and accurately, together with the parade force, marching on the ground to bring the heroic atmosphere of the Vietnam People's Army.

Previously, I participated in flight demonstrations at the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2022 and 2024 in Hanoi, so I have a lot of experience. But this event is expected and cared for by the whole country, so I also feel some pressure. This is not only an honor and pride, but also a great responsibility for me and my teammates."

Talking on the sidelines, Colonel Dung could not help but excitedly add that he and his teammates received a congratulatory phone call from the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army. The image of the air force flying in the sky not only allows people across the country to enjoy but also allows the whole world to know the strength and modernity of our army.

Previously, in an interview, Colonel Nguyen The Dung said that the force participating in this demonstration flight mission had to undergo thorough training, practice and rehearsal.

"First, pilots must be trained in basic and systematic theory, then practice through flights, flight groups, and joint training sessions, preliminary and final rehearsals. Second, all activities must be carried out according to the curriculum, plans, and strategies developed by the authorities. After the training period at Bien Hoa airport and organizing joint training flights in Ho Chi Minh City, up to now, we have assessed that the pilots' flying skills have met the requirements according to the proposed scenario and the requirements of the authorities for the welcome flight mission. However, in the coming time, we will continue to practice the strategies so that the flights are more fluent and ready to perform other contents when requested by superiors" - Colonel Dung said.

On April 18, the sky of Ho Chi Minh City became extremely special when a series of military helicopters simultaneously parted the clouds and flew into the city center in an extremely impressive flag-raising formation. Following that was a group of Su-30MK2 "king cobra" fighter jets of Colonel Nguyen The Dung and his teammates.

Previously, these formations had practiced in the sky above the Independence Palace since March 27. These special moments were recorded and proudly shared by the people.

The country has been at peace for half a century. But in the skies of Vietnam today, planes still roar, carrying with them both the indomitable spirit of generations who paved the way in the flames of war and the will to continue of generations in peacetime.

Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Hai, Political Commissar of Regiment 940, said he highly appreciated the ability of the young pilots in his unit when they mastered the Yak-130 - a modern aircraft with advanced electronic equipment. For him, the continuity lies in both flying skills and a sense of responsibility and will to excel: "Up to now, the pilots assigned to fly the parade on April 30 are all making great efforts, demonstrating high capacity and determination."

The parade flights in the A50 mission to celebrate the 50th anniversary of national reunification are also an affirmation that the spirit of "total victory" of the past still lives on in every flight today. The sky is where soldiers carry out their missions, and is also the link between the past and the future, where the dreams of our ancestors are entrusted and the hopes of the next generation take flight.

And the great victory in the spring of 1975, culminating in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, successfully ended the resistance war against the US to save the country, full of sacrifice and hardship; forever recorded in our national history as one of the most brilliant pages, a shining symbol of the complete victory of revolutionary heroism and human intelligence, entering world history as a great feat of the 20th century.
