Overcoming his self-consciousness and barriers due to Tourette syndrome, Dinh Viet Tuong showed off his singing and dancing talents at 'All-round Rookie'. The young man's captivating performance and inspirational story made ST Son Thach and Xuan Nghi admire him.

After the first episode of Rookie of the Year aired on the evening of April 20, Dinh Viet Tuong is becoming a name that receives the attention of a large audience with his impressive singing and dancing abilities and inspirational story. Appearing in the qualifying round, the 23-year-old revealed that he had a neurological syndrome called Tourette's more than 10 years ago. This syndrome causes Viet Tuong to make strange sounds, speak incoherently and have uncontrolled movements.

The contestant from Quang Tri confidently performed the song Scars to your beautiful with an emotional voice and received praise from the casting judges. Dinh Viet Tuong was born in 2002 in Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province. Dinh Viet Tuong's family is one of the poor households in the locality. Before he was born, Tuong's parents divorced, Tuong lived with his mother, stepfather and 3 younger siblings.

In 7th grade, Tuong discovered he had a strange disease called Tourett Syndrome. This syndrome caused him to have actions such as: blinking, grimacing, jerking his head or shoulders. Sometimes grimacing combined with shrugging. As time went on, the disease became more severe, causing Tuong to make strange sounds in his throat like barking or whining. When he tried to control it, his body became tired, had difficulty breathing, was stiff and very heavy.

Since discovering that he had strange conditions, Tuong was confused and scared. "During secondary school, my illness became more and more serious, but at that time I didn't know what the illness was. I felt terrible, self-conscious, and embarrassed when I heard the mocking laughter and contemptuous looks from everyone around me. I hated this illness. At night, I cried and thought a lot. I thought about the obstacles this illness would bring to my life, I thought about my mother, I felt powerless, and I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to take care of my mother in the future," Tuong confided with red eyes.

The disease is getting worse but Tuong is getting used to it. Tuong is learning to live optimistically, confidently and ignoring the insults. Tuong dares to express his personality, especially his passion for music since childhood even though he is not normal. The 10x guy often participates in singing and dancing competitions organized by the district and province.

Tuong confided: "I felt sorry for myself for being "not normal" and told myself I had to get out of this terrible situation. From then on, I thought more positively, tried to take advantage of every day to study, practice and do more useful things so that I wouldn't regret it later."

Tuong lives in harmony, is cheerful and transmits a lot of positive energy to everyone around him. Nguyen Thi Hai Ly (Tuong's close friend) shared: "I see you stay at home alone and take care of yourself and your rare disease cannot be cured. I really love you, I feel sorry for you. But I also admire you because you dare to express your personality without being self-conscious. Especially when you stand on stage to sing, you transmit positive energy to everyone."

In early March 2021, Tuong went to Ho Chi Minh City alone to study and try to pass the entrance exam to the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music. Holding the microphone and standing on stage to sing for everyone, Tuong felt like he could be himself and forget about his illness.

Every morning when he wakes up, in a small 20 square meter rented room, Tuong diligently studies music and practices singing. In addition to studying, Tuong spends time on recreational activities such as dancing, exercising, surfing the web, watching movies like any other normal person. Tuong hopes that one day his singing will inspire people in the same situation as him.
