TikToker Con Co Day has not spoken to his biological mother for a year. He even had to rent a hotel room every time he returned home because he regretfully admitted that he "no longer has a place" in his own home.
Quan Truong, widely known by the nickname "Con Co Day," has become a phenomenon on the TikTok platform in the past year or so. Born in 1999, he not only made a strong impression through a series of videos transforming into a Northern mother with strong Vietnamese cultural features, but also through building a dramatic universe of middle-aged characters, including Hong Tho Tho Lo, Dung Am O, Hung Dam Do, and Do Lua Nam. It is his unique creativity, natural storytelling style, and ability to evoke emotions through everyday details that have brought Quan Truong to the pinnacle of glory. Notably, on the evening of October 18 in Ho Chi Minh City, he was honored with the most important award: Creator of the Year at TikTok Awards Vietnam 2025.
However, behind the stage lights and the humor that spread on social networks, Quan Truong recently caused a big surprise when sharing personal thoughts about his real-life relationship with his own mother. In an emotional livestream, he revealed that for about a year, the mother and son had not spoken. This is not a simple story about right and wrong, but the result of many complex intertwined factors, including geographical distance, certain changes in Quan's life and personality, and personal problems that have not been resolved.
Quan Truong confided that even though he was in Hanoiâwhere his family livedâhe still could not return home because he felt there was âno more roomâ for him. This feeling became even more profound and haunting when he talked about the past Lunar New Year occasions. For many years, he could only return home to have a hasty family reunion meal with everyone, and then had to rent a hotel room to stay. This detail touched the hearts of many viewers, creating a clear contrast between the image of a filial son, close to his mother in the videos and the reality of his private life.
He further explained the reason for "no more room" at home. It was not a serious family conflict, but stemmed from the fact that his family was living together with many generations, quite crowded. The common living space became cramped, inconvenient for Quan's content creation work, which requires quiet and private space. His decision not to stay at home was to avoid affecting the common life of the whole family. Despite the distance with his mother, Quan affirmed that his relationship with his family was still normal; he still regularly visited and updated his mother's situation through his father and other relatives. In particular, Quan Truong also showed initiative when he determined that he would find a way to talk to his mother again in the near future, expressing his desire to mend this relationship.
Quan Truong's independence was formed very early. Since high school, he has earned his own living expenses, not financially dependent on his parentsâa noodle seller and a driver. Growing up, he participated in many activities from singing, acting to being a TikToker, accumulating experience and finances. Currently, in addition to taking care of himself, he still regularly sends a small amount of money to his parents and occasionally gives gifts to his nephews (his brother's children).
The decision to live alone and the geographical shift were also important parts of Quan's career development journey. At the age of 22, with his personal savings, he bought his own apartment in Hanoi. He affirmed that living alone was due to the nature of his creative work, which required an independent space, away from the crowdedness of a multi-generational family. About a year ago, Quan moved to Ho Chi Minh City to live and work, renting a house here while his family was still in Hanoi, which further increased the physical distance between him and his mother.
